At the Digital Building Permit #DBP2025 conference at @tuwien.at in December, I presented together with my co-authors Judith Fauth and Ronny Weinkauf about #ProcessMining in the #Building #Permit #Review. Colleagues of @iib-rub.bsky.social have presented, e.g., on #NRW government strategy for #DBP.
Keynote talk prof. Corentin Fivet
Last Friday, we had an inspiring keynote talk of Prof. Corentin Fivet on urban-mined structural design for reuse of load bearing concrete elements at @ruhr-uni-bochum.de. The keynote was part of the CRC1683 “Forum Nachhaltigkeit”.
Presented our paper on assessment of concrete elements for #reuse based on #3DGS and #Laserscanning today at #SASBE2025 in Lille, France. Find a preprint of our paper here: www.researchgate.net/publication/...
Besides practical applications in the projects, students learn the background and use cases of #AI, #Robotics, #LaserScanning, #DigitalTwins, #AdditiveManufacturing, and #VR/#AR in #AEC, and engage with current research by discussing recent scientific papers in a seminar format.

This winter term, I’m teaching the lecture "Automation in Design and Construction" for the second year — now with an even stronger focus on interdisciplinary projects involving students from civil engineering, computational engineering, and computer science.
This week, we had one of the leading researchers in #computing in #civil #engineering at our group and the CRC1683: Prof. Jack C. P. Cheng. Its been a week full of interaction and discussions. Info on his guest lecture: www.linkedin.com/posts/sfb168... #AcademicSky #Science #BIM #AI #sustainability

OntoBPR formalizes a multi-layered ontology for building permit reviews. SHACL rules automate assignments and compliance checks in permit reviews. The framework enables support in decision-making and notification generation. Link to open-access full article: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
Our article, "OntoBPR: An ontology-based framework for performing building permit reviews using standardized information containers," is now published in Adv. Eng. Inf. (Elsevier). We present a process-integrated, ontology-driven approach to automating building permit reviews within BIM ecosystems.
