Globe showing the Atlantic Ocean with arrows depicting the AMOC circulation: warm surface currents (pink/red) flowing northward from the tropics toward the Arctic, and cold deep return currents (blue/purple) flowing southward. The background shows sea surface temperature trends, with a prominent blue cold patch, the "cold blob", south of Greenland, contrasting with warming (orange/red) across the rest of the ocean.
1/ There's a system of ocean currents in the Atlantic that shapes Europe's #climate, drives monsoons, and keeps sea levels stable along the US coast.
In the last 5 years, the scientific evidence that it could collapse has shifted dramatically.
Most people have no idea. 🧵

The 28th Virginia battle flag is a Confederate battle flag that belonged to the 28th Virginia Infantry Regiment. Captured by the 1st Minnesota Infantry Regiment at the Battle of Gettysburg, the flag was brought to Minnesota and exhibited at the state's capitol for several years before passing into the permanent collection of the Minnesota Historical Society after 1896 where it has remained since.
Happy Confederate Surrender Day from Minnesota where we still have your goddamn flag and we’re not giving it up.

Let me say this plainly: Iranian children have as much of a right to live and thrive as American children.
Their babies MUST be as precious to me as my 6 niblings and my baby grandnib are IF I want them to have a future.
If I want a future for my kin AND humanity, I MUST act like it.
So must you.

I know it's cliché to say but I really don't know how I'm supposed to go about the rest of my day knowing that the president of my country is threatening to commit genocide against an entire nation today

The only way to end the sexual abuse of children who are detained and incarcerated is to stop detaining and incarcerating children. There are no "reforms" that end sexual abuse inside.

Two pictures of the pillsbury dough boy: once is on a purple background with the caption “he is risen! happy Easter!”, and the other is tan and brown, similar to a cracker, on a white background saying “he is not! Happy Passover!”
It’s time to post one of my favorite memes of the year.

Satellite mirror plans could disrupt sleep and ecosystems worldwide, scientists say
Letters to US agency raise concerns over tech firm’s plans to use reflective satellites and expand numbers in low Earth orbit
Billionaires and tech bros treating this planet like a personal cash cow, fucking up all our lives and global ecology for $ and ego and nobody with power to do so will interfere with their profit seeking. They’re begging for pitchforks and guillotines. www.theguardian.com/science/2026...

I don't see this said enough: the widespread use of generative AI is not only making our jobs as educators harder logistically, but also emotionally. It is genuinely sad to be suspicious of students when you have spent so much time building a pedagogy based on trust and not being a cop. It sucks.

When ICE Blows Through Rural America - The American Prospect
As the surge in Minneapolis winds down, small communities in Minnesota (like Willmar) fend off more arrests and lasting impacts.
At the height of ICE operations in Minnesota, reporters descended on the Twin Cities. I wanted to know what was happening in the small farming & meatpacking towns in the rest of the state. So we sent @emmarjanssen.bsky.social there, & she produced this stunning report.

Man, the effects of the ICE occupation are vast and ongoing. A family I am helping, like so many others, is trying to figure out how to rebuild their lives. Trying to make rent, needing to find work, adjusting to an existence without family members. There may be less ICE but these are huge wounds.

But, you see. If we pay teachers what they're worth, we won't be able to pay district administrators what they aren't worth.

Peggy Flanagan was a former school board member who was elected state rep in 2015 and Lieutenant Governor in 2018, which is when Angie Craig left the corporate world for Congress.
Craig’s repeated claim that Flanagan, a qualified candidate, needs “training wheels” is offensive and embarrassing.

White House revises its DHS offer as talks to end shutdown pick up
Border czar Tom Homan met again with lawmakers Friday night in the Capitol.
Senate Democrats may agree to a DHS deal that gives the Trump regime new powers to criminalize protesters and journalists who oppose ICE:
"Hoeven said there was room for agreement over creating “serious” criminal penalties for “doxxing” and harassing law enforcement."

Today, civil rights leader Dolores Huerta issued the following statement:
Dolores Huerta's statement on Cesar Chavez: “I am nearly 96 years old, and for the last 60 years have kept a secret because I believed that exposing the truth would hurt the farmworker movement I have spent my entire life fighting for... I can no longer stay silent and must share my own experiences"

theater has been cut from South High School next year too.
our most racially segregated high schools are completely losing theater next year. it’s deplorable that MPS does not seem to think Black, brown & special education students deserve theater.
theater is literacy, theater is SEL.

The 2026 farm bill quietly hands big tech control over American farmland. Here's the fine print | Fortune
The 2026 Farm Bill would reimburse farmers 90 cents on the dollar for adopting Big Tech AI tools — while letting the private sector write the rules.
Tucked inside the 2026 Farm Bill is a provision to reimburse farmers for 90% of the cost of adopting AI and precision agriculture technologies.
The standards governing those tech wouldn't be set by the USDA, but by the tech industry.
This could give Big Tech immense power over farmers.

Looks like Minneapolis is not the only city making up bullshit reasons to remove public seating when their real goal just appears to be to remove any amenity that might be used by an unhoused person.

This isn't just standard Minneapolis incompetence and business liberalism. This isn't even a bus lane (build more bus lanes). This is CITIZENSHIP CLASSES, ENGLISH CLASSES. Destroying these is doing the regime's work with a sledgehammer wrapped in business clothing and budget slideshows. 7/?

Angie Craig: I regret my vote on the Laken Riley Act
That regret has "only strengthened my resolve to stand up to the Trump administration’s cruel immigration policies, call out my spineless Republican colleagues and impeach Homeland Security Secretary ...
it’s way too late for angie craig to FINALLY admit she regrets voting for the laken riley act. being unable to recognize it as harmful at the time & only changing her mind after the terror her vote helped bring to minnesota isn’t good enough. the damage was done

I don't think the "Einstein" or other AI replacing the important steps of learning, esp in higher ed, would be posing quite the challenge it is right now if students hadn't been sent the message their entire lives that the point of college is to get good grades and a high paying job, not to learn.
