We are not going to move the dial on disability unemployment or lack of productivity by restricting the already log jammed diagnosis system. We need to be more expansive not less.
The neurodivergent community are unwell, not belligerent and demanding. We need medical treatment for inflammation and post viral syndrome, much of which is cheap and easy to obtain. We need some out of the box policy thinking, not more of the victim-blaming same.
The neurodiversity movement was intended to drive career potential for neurodivergent people. We didn't want handouts, we wanted to thrive.
The ADHD diagnoses are not wrong. But we need to start wondering whether it is the ADHD forcing us out of the workforce, or the poor health. Wes Streeting can look a lot closer to home for the solution to his, and the UK tax payer's, problem. We need joined up health care, not a motivational speech about how demotivated we are.

I'm singing religious songs
And getting the words wrong
My hair's getting too long
For this congregation

Religious songs

I'm getting the words wrong
My hair's getting too long

And they're saying
"How does he really expect to be happy
When he listens to death metal bands?"

What is love in the time of ecstasy
And bare knuckle fighting
Lord, won't you deliver me
From the wave machine
And the transparent bikini

Like isn't there some skeleton
On me I should find
That I might vanquish
Please, won't you listen to me
Your unfaithful servant's
Filthy fucking language

Turn turn
Everybody turn
Everybody's gonna burn
To everything there is a season

Under heaven

Hardcore hardcore
Listen to the crowd roar
I can feel the dancefloor fill with expectation

I can never meet

(was initially very surprised by one of the names there, but guess the petty tit-for-tat shit that’s been going on between online autistic researchers for years now has real world consequences. if you constantly deride someone’s work, why would they work for you?)

regular reminder there are twice as many autistic adults as autism parents on the lancet commission that proposed “profound autism”

(and both groups are tiny compared to the autism researchers which made/make up the majority of the group)

Me to 3yo: What do you want for your birthday party theme?

3yo: “Poopoo & peepee theme! We can get apple juice for the pee, so a skeleton pees and you drink the skeleton pee but it’s okay because it’s juice”

Me: ..K I was thinking like “dinosaurs” but let’s put a pin in “piss fountain of the dead”

if this child has any therapists/teachers tell them the child lacks contingency awareness and ask if they can build a programme to address that. this can be overcome, though slowly

Weiss's praise followed in the tradition of the eminent Swiss psychiatrist Moritz Tramer, whose 1924 article, "One-Sidedly Talented and Gifted Imbeciles," called people with such calendar and mathematical skills "memory artists." Tramer admired those whose ability to detach from their environment "freed" their mind for areas of greatness. 32 Asperger, however, would frame Weiss's and Tramer's observations in terms of social worth, saying in 1944 that useful "special abilities" made some autistic children super-ior, while others, such as "calendar people," were "mentally retarded people who show highly stereotyped automaton-like behaviour" and "have crackpot interests which are of no practical use."

There were notable similarities between Weiss's and Frankl's articles. Both described children who had difficulty integrating into groups and forging emotional connections with others. Both stressed the fundamental naiveté of the children's character and morals, and advocated benevolent care. Neither proposed a diagnosis for their behavior nor pathologized their traits. And neither mentioned Asperger as a collaborator in their work, although he was the director under whom they worked while doing the research described in their articles; Weiss credited Lazar, who had died six years earlier.

It is not clear that Asperger's generous sentiments applied to all children. Asperger lauded autistic youths whose intelligence, "astonishingly mature special interests," and
"originality of thought" led to "high performance" and "out-standing achievements."

Yet Asperger also warned that in many children "autistic originality can be nonsensical, eccentric, and useless." The latter had an "unfavorable social prognosis," even an "inability to learn."

rote sharing special interests [to appear smart] is somehow a virtue now??

its history in autism is pretty tricky!

why are so many autistic men watching youtubes of people 1 degree more autistic than them to make fun of them, and why do they not recognise it as supremacist behaviour

there needs to be a BIG CHAT about this in the autistic community

like, are you including learning disabled people? is there a communicatively disabled person in your regular meet up? if not, why not

a very small finding (the FC debunking literature is huge), but a 2014 study found pupils with independent literacy skills were impaired by using FC

the same researchers found 0/8 pupils could approximate their own name via FC
