He also summarised the impact this research had on clinical guidelines, national strategies, and mental health services.
Nav talked about combining the Oxford, Manchester and Derby data in Multicentre study of self-harm and resulting studies on mortality risk (buff.ly/YckbC81 ), benefits of assessment (buff.ly/kp7P2Oj ), and inequalities (buff.ly/WrviTVD).
This included how smaller pack sizes of common painkillers saved lives (buff.ly/3UYF4h4) and seminal research on the impact of media portrayal of self-harm (buff.ly/bfcmRtl)
There were messages of congratulations from our @ProfLAppleby and Keith presented a history of the project as well as some of the research highlights.
Our Nav Kapur and MASH colleagues were in Oxford yesterday with friends past and present (with MASH co-founder Dr Jayne Cooper) celebrating the 50th anniversary of the remarkable Oxford Self-harm monitoring project, set and brilliantly led by Professor Keith Hawton @oxfordpsychiatry.bsky.social

Tom Ayers @rcpsych.bsky.social closed our event and shared his hopes for the future.
Thank you to all of our speakers, facilitation team and attendees.
This event was recorded, and we will add the recording to our website at a later date: sites.manchester.ac.uk/ncish/resour...
Jill Corbyn spoke about the new @ndconnection.bsky.social interactive toolkit to support neurodiversity-affirming care and their hopes for the future of personalised risk assessment.
This interactive toolkit is available here: ndconnection.co.uk/resources/p/...
Dr Jay Watts @shrinkatlarge.bsky.social spoke about the history of reform, the backlash it often provokes and why cultural change in suicide risk is so difficult to sustain.
Our @ncish.bsky.social Professor Nav Kapur spoke about our support to organisations to move towards personalised risk assessment, the importance of embedding equity principles and lived experience throughout developing a new assessment approach and what we have learnt from organisations.
Sal Smith spoke about the Culture of Care standards and the importance of equity in personalised risk assessment and of a person-centred approach to safety.
Pea Meyer Higgins and @dremmanielsen.bsky.social discussed their lived experiences of risk assessments and their thoughts on the future of safety.
We held our final Personalised Approach to Risk event as part of the Culture of Care programme today. This session was chaired by @drleahquinlivan.bsky.social and focused on equity, advocacy, and cultural change in risk assessment for self-harm and suicide.
Great panel on suicide prevention and the media with Dr Jo Bell, Martin Lindsay and Rob Brown.
Nav spoke about the importance of high-quality data to identify what works for suicide prevention, how it works, and how we can make it work better. Changing the tune on suicide prevention will require (among many other things) a global, inclusive approach.
One of the things that has progressed suicide prevention in the UK is lived experience involvement. Shirley Smith was one of the pioneers and founded If U Care Share Foundation, now brilliantly led by her son Matthew Smith.
Our Director Nav Kapur was back in the North East of England yesterday and honoured to be part of the If U Care Share Foundation conference - Changing the Tune on Suicide Prevention.
Our website presents the most up-to-date suicide data, including all data we currently hold for deaths that occurred between 2012 and 2024 in the UK and Jersey. This will be updated on a quarterly basis as more data becomes available.
