I think most folks (definitely me) would honestly say their careers are mostly meeting things halfway, rather than a planned progression. I can see that being more frustrating for folks in creative careers where they naturally think in narrative arcs.

“The Lost World” was as dreadful as “Jurassic Park” was awesome

@neptunesalad.bsky.social I finally finished reading this and really enjoyed it! The very short chapters are double edged sword. Makes it easy to read a tiny amount at a time. Near the end I couldn’t help but think of the modern “NPC” designation for folks who don’t agree with a right wing view.

Any possibility of an audio project with a companion short film?

Meant to mention, when I was trying to get back into reading after a hiatus, I found graphic novels that seemed interesting. That felt easier than jumping into reading full books again. Lately I’ve really enjoyed audiobooks. Your library probably has a ton you can download free.

I have yet to read “breakfast of champions” or “mother night”, but I really love “cats cradle”. Shared that one with my teenager and he really liked it too. I was excited to hear that Noah Hawley is working on an adaptation!

Assuming we make it through the next couple of decades, this will be an incredible image for future historians/students of the Trump era

I love Marcovaldo, and also really love the much more surreal Cosmicomics, but my favorite Calvino for sheer “this shouldn’t work but somehow does” is “if on a winter’s night a traveler”. That one is unlike anything else I’ve read, and is a love letter to being a reader.

“And here was the reason human beings could not reject ideas because they were bad: Ideas on Earth were badges of friendship or enmity. Their content did not matter. Friends agreed with friends, in order to express friendship. Enemies disagreed with enemies, in order to express enmity.” (1973)
