Addressing why over on the www.youtube.com/@WhaleTalkPo... we have not covered the viral topic of orca cannibalism. I read the paper by Filatova et al. 2026, released in February. After reading it, I felt there were too many inaccuracies. If anyone wishes to discuss this in a video, let me know!
Close-up of a dolphin leaping from water with splashes, highlighting marine life amid Ukraine conflict pollution concerns. With the text: Warβs Hidden Impact: New pollution fears for dolphins in Ukraine conflict zone.
The war in Ukraine is harming whales and dolphins in the Black Sea. Military activity, ships, explosions, fires, and floating mines, have been disturbing these them for years. Now, pollution and toxic contamination from munitions are making things even worse π https://ow.ly/teAG50YKnsz

This river reaches the Pacific in northern California, where K- and L-Pods spend time in the winter/spring.
My podcast co-host @geofitz4.bsky.social went searching for shark teeth on the beach! He made a VLOG! www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6sL...
For anyone that was following the rescue attempts on the humpback whale in germany, and wondering why they abandoned rescue attempts, this is from BDMLR, and shines some light on such decisions. It's a very good and detailed statement. bdmlr.org.uk/statement-st...

Happy #NationalUnicornDay or should we say Unofficial Narwhal Day!
At least for the youtube channel I have stuff scheduled to release until I can hopefully work on something. I also have another video on my external hard drive ready to upload.
Yep, everything's expensive. Thankfully I still have good components. I can salvage the RAM, and the GPU I may be able to sell second hand.
So, some news on my part and why content might be delayed for a while. My computer is dead, so I need to order a new one, set it up etc. I can turn my current one on for only short periods, I have an external hard drive, but this means that the iberian orca video I spent weeks on, has to start again
That first photo makes me think of Keiko.
Orcawatch for March is live! T419s, T99's Lucky Escape, 150ish Type C orcas! Scottish Residents John Coe and Aquarius and many more! youtu.be/EM0rROmoQBE?...

My first orca! I have a real soft spot for him and the rest of the T65Bs! Glad to see them back!
Whale Talk Podcast's Orcas of the Month for April are: The T419s (T419, T420, T421). I have a 6 page script I wrote for a video on these. 250 characters is going to be impossible to describe these with, SO, look out for the next Orcawatch video! www.youtube.com/@WhaleTalkPo...
We talk about them!
Whale Talk Podcast Live Recording in 5 minutes - www.twitch.tv/cravone
Will be on youtube in a week and a half! We are talking about media whales!
Absolutely beautiful!
Major life choices coming soon after my visit to america. If my job applications to marine biology related jobs don't work out, Strongly inclined to do a masters degree or other further education. Luckily some french universities offer english courses. Never been as motivated in my life than now.
It's those cookie cutter scars!
Coming soon.
For me, the biggest point of realization with this paper was that, I never considered that the Alaskan Residents, NRs and (what shocked me the most) Offshores were acting as a Chinook filter for the SRs.
I think my first question would be, why are the NRs doing well, but SRs aren't?
Also if you have questions about this you want to ask me and @geofitz4.bsky.social , we will be recording a video specifically on this topic area. You have until wednesday to ask your questions, after which it will be too late because we will have already recorded!
Will briefly talk about this paper by Ford et. al (2026) in next week's news video, with a discussion at a later date. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...
Got me thinking, sometimes we tunnel vision and forget to look at the bigger picture, sometimes we don't full understand the problem.
On my podcast we have a running gag that we refer to all cetaceans as whales!
