PSA: tips to protect yourself from scams on Signal.
Every major comms platform has to contend w phishing, impersonation, & scams. Sadly.
Signal is major, and as we've grown we've heard about more of these attacks--scammy people pretending to be something or someone to trick and abuse others. 1/
This is my interpretation as well. Just pointing out the ridiculous implications of the Single Bond Theory
James Bond: Into the Bondiverse!
Bond has also been in his 30s or 40s for the past 70-odd years and nobody seems to have a problem with that
To be fair, casting a nonagenarian as the next Bond would be a hilarious choice.
Battlefield 6 starts now!
There's no magic wand you can wave and guarantee the security of anything stored online. Even large institutions regularly disclose breaches and leaks. Security is a cat-and-mouse game that's constantly evolving. It's never "over" or "solved."
Data protection is good. Data minimization is better.
The idea is that faulty policy that incentivizes or enshrines a method of compliance with inherent dangers you can never 100% mitigate leads to lots of businesses suddenly exposing users and themselves to a swath of all-new risks that werenât previously in play.
BBC article text: âDiscord, a messaging platform popular with gamers, says official ID photos of around 70,000 users have potentially been leaked after a cyber-attack. The platform, which has more than 200 million users worldwide, says hackers had targeted a firm that helped to verify the ages of its users but the Discord platform itself was not breached. People can provide ID photos to verify their age on Discord - a networking hub for players to chat and share files with others in the gaming community. The leaked data may involve personal information, partial credit card details and messages that were exchanged with Discord's customer service agents, the San-Francisco-based company says.â
When people warn about the privacy and security risks of mandating digital age verification, this is exactly what they mean. Itâs not hypothetical www.bbc.com/news/article...
Battlebit was a hoot. I still go back there from time to time.
My impressions of the BF6 beta were that it was a big improvement over the 2042 beta, but that it didnât feel like it was about to unseat BF3 and 4. Weâll see what things look like on full release.
BC1 and 2 were incredible for their time. BC2âs destruction physics especially!
Yeah man! Been playing since BF1942. The only ones I skipped were Hardline and 2042. GLHF
Friday is #battlefield6 launch day. Letâs check it out!

My podcast with @mmasnick.bsky.social and @berinszoka.bsky.social is up now! Listen to me nerd out about the Fourth Amendment, Berin nerd out about the history of the FTC, and all three of us complain about this terrible, terrible FTC order with Aylo.

Now, in this exciting new chapter, I get to be even more involved in the important discussions that produce the technology we use every day.
A huge thank-you to Lara, Ned and rest of the team at Google. Letâs go!
For fans of the channel, worry not: the stream isn't going anywhere, though the schedule and format will likely need to flex going forward. (If youâre not a follower yet, come join the fun at twitch.tv/BrainFungi.)
This year I got to combine both those interests by becoming a creator and launching my own channel on Twitch, an experiment in new media many of you graciously supported.
Iâm immensely proud of my reporting at world-class newsrooms like CNN and The Washington Post, where I helped millions grasp how technology, and technology policy, can influence our daily lives. I care deeply about the future of journalism, and about the decisions that shape the internet.
Having spent the last decade covering dialogues on internet policy, Iâm excited for the chance to be a part of one. The conversation unfolding now is urgent, nuanced, and vitally important to everyone who relies on the internet for knowledge. Thereâs no better time to jump in.
