The first reindeer a boy shoots is an important ritual!

It shows he is going to be a hunter who can feed his family. Normally he will be around 12 years old but in the linked story the boy is only 9.

Nowadays both boys and girls take part in this ritual.

Grl is not part of the EU but their laws are generally compatible with DK/EU law.
1) A lot of Danish law is directely copied.
2) Grl. are danish citizens, they follow the same standards as Denmark.

Arnarulunnguaq at the start of the 5. Thule expedition. She is wearing a traditional north greenlandic fur outfit. At this time she would be around 25 years old. Photo by Therkel Mathiassen (1892-1967)/Arktisk Institut.

2) Arn. was probably born around 1896 to a nomadic family. Her father died when she was around 7 y.o. Her mother, Aleqasersuaq, would not be able to feed them all and to avoid them all suffering a slow hunger-death she decided to end her daughters life. Her brothers pleading saved her life.

Shortly after arriving in Denmark, she was diagnosed with tuberculosis and was immediately hospitalized. She stayed until 1925, receiving the Silver Medal of Merit.

She returned to Thule and married Karl Peary (son of Robert Peary). She was weakened by tuberculosis and died in 1933 at the age of 37

1) Many have the impression that Arctic exploration was mens work. The best and most successful expeditions (looking at you Kunuunnguaq) had women aboard.

The best known woman is probably Arnarulunnguaq/den lille kvinde/the small woman.
