#morninglistening to #EugenDAlbert's #Tiefland. I've wanted to listen to this opera for over 20 years and for some reason or other put it off or didn't get to it. So there are still mainstream "discoveries" for me out there - and what a charming (if disturbing) one this one is!

I remember all those discs coming out, just from hanging out at Tower Records a lot. (Or maybe I was already working there, at the time?)

What's your favorite funny moment in classical music?

Like the Tristan-chord when they slip rum into Albert Herring's lemonade.

Or the "re-tuning" episode in Haydn's "Il distratto" symphony... that sort of thing.

#morninglistening to Hlíf Sigurjónsdóttur's Bach Sonatas and Partitas which I had neglected to do for the last 18 years. Mea culpa. Generously resonant acoustic, perfectly fine playing.

RIP Oleg Maisenberg (Олег Иосифович Майзенберг), who died this afternoon, at the age of 80, 13 days before his 81st birthday. The Soviet Ukrainian was perhaps best known as Gidon Kremer's chamber music partner. His career reached an apex in the early 90s, in Vienna.

Favorite recordings, anyone?

Ghostly stuff. Very Janačékian. Do you know the violin concerto? Like that. But opera.

#morninglistening to SemyonBychkov's #GustavMahler cycle w/the @czechphilharmonic on @pentatonemusic which is now finished & boxed! Arriving @ No.6, laudably Scherzo-Andante. Not among the brutalist takes; more forgiving.
