wait till you read my chapter 3

Always amazes me how a little bit of cleaning and re-organizing does the soul a lot of good and can easily revivify it!
When Ratzinger decided to rip out 2/3 of his Habilitationsschrift so that he could submit the final third, he became the definition of "the best thesis is the completed thesis."
only when someone is weak do they make demands like this, too.
it’s like Winston Churchill is non-existent to them!
may I recommend some Ratzinger? :) (his introduction in his habilitation. though unfortunately still only in German)
woke up at 1am and couldnt fallback asleep.
so I said to myself “well. I guess now is as good of a time as ever to get my taxes done”
2200 words today. 80% done chapter 1’s first draft.
rewarding myself with chipotle and finally seeing Project Hail Mary on Imax tonight with a couple friends.
about to crack 5,000. what a productive day!
3500 words written today and it's only 1pm 💪
Every minute spent working on my doctoral thesis is a lesson in theological method at the feet of the Master: Joseph Ratzinger. It is a real privilege to study and learn from him and it convinces me all the more why good methodological foundations are necessary.
now on to section 1.2. already 50% complete. would love to have it (and thus with it, all of chapter 1) done by Easter Sunday
heck ya a fully developed section 1.1 has been sent to supervisors. Though it's too bloated (12k words when I want 7k. Footnotes in word count can be killer sometimes!)
a switch has been flipped in my head with dissertation writing.
how frequently something is judged in my
mind as declarative rather than argumentative
If Sinners came out in the 90s there would be an SNES and Genesis game that would be made by totally different developers. The Genesis version youd play as Smoke and you’d have a gun and in the SNES version you play as Preacherboy and you fight vampires with your guitar
Ratzinger’s description Augustine’s ecclesiology, whereby the Church as Mother proves essential to Augustine through the experience of Monica’s maternal care for Augustine, is so beautiful. 😭
3500 words today 💪
Doctoral beast today.
my life, right now, is thesis and thesis only, so things are fairly quiet as I only check my phone a couple times a day.
Becoming a hermit, essentially.
But so far cranked out 2500 words today. This new chapter is writing itself!
Just submitted 14,000 words with 102 footnotes to my supervisors. Stick a fork in me, I'm done. (the fruit of 1.5 weeks of intense work)
Your last saved meme is your moral philosophy

crap. this is what happens when you post after writing all day.
I meant to say INTERNATIONAL LAW
not “natural law”. *sigh*
sorry :(.
am not super read up on all his liturgy stuff at the moment. dealing a lot with politics, systematic methodology, and his really old untranslated stuff. dont rsally have anything to contribute atm in part, too, because my brain is fried today
10 pages while stepping on a historical landmine towards the end that sucked up 4 hours of scouring texts I didnt even realize existed 5 hours ago but I think I navigated it decently.
I am fried.
wait till my thesis is defended and published and then I'll be able to bring it out in full :).
wait till I argue that Ratzinger is what I am calling a 'semi-idealist'! (I don't want to put the full idea out yet until I get my thesis defended though).
many english speaking catholics will be shocked to find out how much their favourite theologians embraced the idea of natural law in the early to mid 20th century
yep! wish I figured this out 2 years ago! lol
