Also I assume Colombo no. 3 would always be impeccably dressed and insist on pronouncing his title as "left-tenant".

Now I'm going to have to re-watch all the Peter Falk episodes to see if he offers anyone a Jelly Baby.

I was really making the point that there is a signed document regardless of its name, and to not be worthless it must have some level of legal obligation. But when one of the signatories invades and others offer nothing of substance it's clear that international law...

As far as I can tell, trading seems to be not much more than testosterone charged willy waving and little to do with intellect.

Same - living my teens through 70's Northern Ireland we had the Troubles on top of that. I'd like to live my final score years in a peaceful and equitable society but it seems the bigots and grifters of the far right thrive prefer division, hatred and self enrichment over the common good.

Hegseth Borrows Violent Prayer from ‘Pulp Fiction’ to Bless Iran War at April Pentagon Worship Service For the second month in a row, Pete Hegseth, who likes to call himself “secretary of war,” read a violent prayer — that echoes a scene in the Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction — during a worship ser...

what’s funny about this is that tarantino wrote this “ezekiel 25:17“ for the film. it isn‘t actually in the bible. publicwitness.wordandway.org/p/hegseth-bo...

J002E3 - Wikipedia

Easier just to send him into a highly elliptical Earth orbit. The radiation would get him in space and after a few hundred years or so he'd re-enter and burn up in the atmosphere. Something like, say, Apollo 12's 3rd stage

I actually looked up the difference between memorandum and treaty; unfortunately the distinction is somewhat blurred and you actually have to check the language used in the text to discover the actual level of legal obligation.

Not so much "made a promise" as "signed a treaty".

As Ukraine is teaching us, US style defence is for yesterday's wars and expensive.

I'm given to wonder if Iran's basic condition for negotiation is regime change in the US.

TBH I think an independent Scotland would have a better chance of full EU membership than the UK as a whole, mainly because it wouldn't have the baggage England has created.

Unfortunately, having left the EU, there are many problems rejoining. Thatcher's rebate has no chance of being reinstated, for example, and there would have to be some difficult negotiation regarding currency. Perhaps a customs union is the best solution, for the time being.
