#AHAPerspectives has been sharing knowledge about history and the historical discipline for 64 years. Articles are available online from 1988 to literally today—when a little later, we'll publish a piece on the transnational story of the red-white-blue bag. #TalkAboutHumanities

Screenshot of an Instagram video capturing pope Leo with his mouth open in astonishment
Pop Leo asked if he should put on gloves to turn pages in the gorgeous Renaissance Bible and the librarian explained why it’s better to do so with bare hands. Glorious reaction.

A fake captcha showing a mosaic (from Ravenna? Not sure) of a group of churchmen. The heading reads: Select all squares with bishops who dissented from the Christological findings of the first Council of Nicaea. If there are none click skip.
My favourite captcha, recently reposted.
I'm very excited for what will be an excellent and timely public lecture by @isaacvillegas.bsky.social at Grebel on March 26: "'Who keeps us safe?' Christian Politics of Care."

The Times Square ball drop is a nice bit of pageantry, but the “real” New Year is of course at midnight Central Time
Congratulations, Jeremy! That's been a major undertaking for you, and I look forward to celebrating the final product.

My morning joy!
Student media rules. They are lapping a lot of the spineless media orgs this year and showing how solidarity is the way.
My latest: "Numerous studies show that majors in the humanities—typically, in departments of English, history, philosophy, religious studies, classics and languages—lead students to employment and life satisfaction outcomes as positive as those for majors traditionally championed as 'practical.'”
This is pretty striking: in just 20 years, Canada has gone from being a country where 45% of people aged 25-64 had a post-secondary credential to one where 65% had one. How did we do it? A mix of aging-out of the less-educated, strong post-secondary participation, and immigration policy.
one of the things that gets me about so many of the pundits who pontificate about "higher education" when they really mean a handful of elite private institutions is that most of them live within driving distance of either a community college or a non-selective public institution
(walking into an academic's office) wow! have you skimmed all these books?
A Chicago Pope implies the existence of an MLA Pope and APA Pope
My home region of West-Flanders is asking people to register old fruit trees on their properties into a central database. Once the species has been identified by an expert, they can then be introduced into modern orchards, preserving their historic DNA and flavors.

Hello all: It is with a heavy heart that I remove my Starter Pack of "Trustworthy Mesopotamian Copper Ingot Merchants Within the City-State of Ur."
I have been informed about some pretty unfortunate oversights on my part and ultimately platformed some creators who should not have been platformed.
Good to see there's an active #earlymodern community on here, so you may be interested in our digitised collections of 16th-18th century manuscripts #histmed #medhums #skystorians archiveandlibrary.rcsed.ac.uk/special-coll...?
I also made one specific to History of Christianity

Now that more people are arriving on this page: pulled together some of the #earlymodern centres & journals that already are here into a neat starter pack, for easy following or simply to check those posts as a list. go.bsky.app/LLzFj3b #skystorians
I’ll know the right Third Act moment to open the compound to the zombie horde because “Our time is done - now the world belongs to them.”
A reminder to my academic colleagues that the incoming freshman class was born in 2006 which means that
- they have no memory of the Roman Republic
- for them, Julius Caesar has always been dead
- they consider Virgil to be old people’s poetry
- they don’t care about Sulla’s proscriptions
Me and Anubis are laughing at how heavy your heart is, man. He’s doing bits. Like acting like he can’t even lift it with both hands haha. Acting like he’s doing bicep curls with it. I’m like, damn, Anubis is in his bag
I guess it's time to "condemn the Anabaptists" once and for all.
"Unaltered Augsburg Confession"- As a Reformation historian, I'm delighted to see that the Walz pick has revived interest in 16th-century Lutheran intraconfessional controversy.
