Ha ha. The designer paradox!
Yay! Love it!
Iterate. Then iterate some more. Then after many iterations, stop. The last part is the hard part.
Just because someone made a game about X in 1985 doesn't mean you can't make a game about X.
I think it is good advice earlier on.
Do you thinking applies to more experienced designers as well? *he said nervously*
I’m not following your advice at the moment. But I think that is advanced mode after having spent quite ages years as a designer. :)
Work on one game at a time, but don't work on the same game all the time.
Get out there and don’t be afraid. This community is amazing and will support your ideas. Embrace all feedback and don’t be defensive.
Your game isn't as good as you think. Also, your game isn't as bad as you think.
"The game is not in the components, the mechanisms or the theme. It's in the experience."
”A few minutes here and there will take you further than big chunks of time that rarely happens.”
And
”Inspiration is overrated. Consistency matters more.”
What is a game design advice you would tell your less experienced self? 🎲✂️
Which hobby boardgames produce games with mainly wooden components?
Gigamic is the obvious one but there must be more.

Could anyone share their experiences manufacturing and selling their games from home? In particular those that have 3d printed or laser cut pieces. How much stock do you keep on hand, how much packed material, how do you fulfill your orders, etc.

Huge congrats to @cmyk.games @perryjon.bsky.social @mattleacock.bsky.social @miasmacorp.bsky.social @alex.cmyk.games!
Our game was tight all the way through. The planning phase, followed by just the right amount of randomness before the action kicks off — it's a balance I really enjoyed.
If you get the chance to play OR sign Breach: Go Loud, do it. Highly recommended!

What hooked me immediately was the simultaneous planning phase. The transparent bags let you quickly scan the probabilities before drawing.
Then comes the action phase: swift, tactical, with excellent Line of Sight rules that make every decision feel meaningful.
It hits a really satisfying rhythm.
This was one of the biggest surprises at #Fastaval26 for me.
I'm not a conflict gamer, and a SWAT theme was not exactly calling my name. But my son was intrigued — so we sat down and gave it a shot.
Spoiler: I'm very glad we did. 😅

Breach: Go Loud is a co-op SWAT tactical game for 2-4 players by Bjarke Thomsen & Jakob Eskildsen.
You storm a building, balancing stealth vs going LOUD. Intel gives you probabilities on what's inside, but the full picture only reveals at the breach.

Lately I've been thinking about the different tabletop game design community hubs and how they attract different audiences.
Bluesky - Focused on networking and casual sharing
Reddit - Seems like mostly newer designers with specific questions
BGG - Forums mean longer conversations are easier

Just returned from @fastaval.bsky.social where a game I co-designed was nominated for Best Innovation. Got some fantastic feedback and met awesome people. Fastaval has such a welcoming community. 🎲✂️
Thank you for playing, Uffe! A pleasure as always!
First half of day two of Fastaval was a couple of prototypes. And then we played DystopAI, by @eanderssonsunden.bsky.social and Daniel Olai - an absolutely crazy engine-builder-manipulation-oddity. So much fun to explore!
Many moments of: Oh, you can do _that_?!
Please reach out when ready. ❤️
Oh boy! What an honour! Let me know if I can help somehow! ❤️
This is @aegjohnz.bsky.social’s favorite filler game we publish. He won’t say no to just one more round any time we play and get together.

The prototype of DystopAI just arrived from the printer. I couldn’t be happier with the results! So chunky tiles! Expect brag photos shortly! This is a pre-brag post! 🎲✂️
