BLUESKY IS A WEBSITE THAT TURNS (post by jay.bsky.team claiming that bluesky is made with AI) INTO (picture of bluesky not working)
I don't remember seeing an image of Earth before that captures the (thin, fragile, tiny layer of) atmosphere so clearly. I mean, look at that.
ohhh we've got some stone-cold stunners, folks

Captured by the Artemis II crew during their lunar flyby on April 6, 2026, this image shows the Moon fully eclipsing the Sun. From the crew’s perspective, the Moon appears large enough to completely block the Sun, creating nearly 54 minutes of totality and extending the view far beyond what is possible from Earth. The corona forms a glowing halo around the dark lunar disk, revealing details of the Sun’s outer atmosphere typically hidden by its brightness. Also visible are stars, typically too faint to see when imaging the Moon, but with the Moon in darkness stars are readily imaged. This unique vantage point provides both a striking visual and a valuable opportunity for astronauts to document and describe the corona during humanity’s return to deep space. The faint glow of the nearside of the Moon is visible in this image, having been illuminated by light reflected off the Earth. [alt text from NASA]
The #Artemis II astronauts said they needed more superlatives to describe their view of the eclipse, when the Sun was behind the Moon and its near surface was faintly illuminated by Earthshine
oh my god this is extremely funny
Thread: I want to go over these two shots again, indulge me in a bit of pixel peeping. I think this is an illustrative example because it sets the question of faces aside; from a purely technical lighting fidelity standpoint, DLSS 5 makes this scene worse.
fuck your desert island disc, I want to know your Guantanamo bay song. what song would the government use to torture you at a Black Site
DLSS 6 replaces you with a different gamer who isn't irked about DLSS 6
This is consistent with my artistic vision
I was asked to give my thoughts on generative AI usage in games - here they are!

A 3D environment featuring a wolf head mounted for display above a fireplace.
Surprise! I didn't bother making a separate asset for just the head. The rest of the wolf's body is actually squished up real good like an accordion and hidden inside the fireplace wall.
Work dumber not harder
3 panel comic Panel 1: A crowd is watching TV in a bar. The TV is facing away from the reader. The crowd ecstatically screams “YEAHHHH!” Panel 2: A new guy walks into shot from the left and says “You guys watching football?” A guy in crowd answers “Nope” Panel 3: The new guy looks at the TV screen and immediately screams “OH FUCK YEAH”
imagine if it happens on tv
I still think about this a lot.

i for one am shocked that the "i go in the pool to cool down, why can't my phone?" guy is bad at programming and offloading his job to the anthropic api
the "pick up that can" scene from half life 2 but the can is an explosive barrel

The House of Lords Digital & Communications Committee just published their report on AI, copyright & the creative industries, and their conclusions could not be clearer.

A minor league hockey team had a wiener dog race. Zero thoughts, just vibes and absolute chaos. A thing of beauty
A dramatically lit low-poly subway level that you would never suspect was built from a single extremely clever texture sheet
Reminiscing now about my first job as a game developer, when lighting was so expensive we couldn't even pre-bake it.
We made a single texture sheet with a lit side on top, a shadow side on the bottom, and a gradient in between, and placed all our shadows by hand with geometry cuts and UV mapping

Manchester WI has shut itself down over being forced to exclude trans women
Weird that it's just doing that, but hey, they're worth sharing, I think!
A photo of a Nuthatch clinging onto the side of a wooden fence panel.
A photo of a Nuthatch clinging onto the side of the metal cage of a hanging bird feeder.
Photographed most of the birds that are visiting the bird feeder, but the last ones left are a pair (I think) of Nuthatches. They don't hang around for long; these are the best I've got so far, but that first one isn't quite in focus.
A blue tit with particularly scruffy feathers perches on the branch of a bush. Some of the branches have droplets of rain hanging from them.
Another blue tit perches on the branch of a bush.
A great tit perching on the branch of a bush, partly obscure by another branch in front of it.
