I've been super disappointed with the recent release of RPGs, Veilguard was incredibly bad and a stain on the Dragon Age name, Star Wars Outlaws could have been great but was lacking.

But Avowed is genuinely good. Combats fun, exploration is good, good going so far.

Over the past couple of years my book tastes have moved almost entirely to LITRPG and cultivation/progressions fantasy.

Why? They are easy read, incredibly fun and packed with action and good amounts of romance.

Here are my favourite four

13. 14. 15 12 Miles Below by Mark Arrows

These are so so so good. Horizon Zero Dawn as a progression fantasy, man Vs machine, futuristic knights fighting machine dinosaurs. Action is โœ… characters are โœ… world building is โœ…โœ…

Best read of 2025 so far.

10. 11. 12. The Night Lord Trilogy by Aaron Dembski-Bowden

If Dan Abnett is the king of Black Library, ADB is the prince. These where my first true taste of traitor marines and not what I was expecting. Love when BL books are actually more than dakka dakka dakka.

Very good.

8. 9. Iron Flame and Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros

I don't care what you guys think, these are genuinely good books, yes it's smutty, but you can skip those parts if you must. Yarros has some excellent world building and character writing and these are fun and action packed

5. 6. 7 Dawn of the Void series by Phil Tucker.

These where super fun, apocalyptic hobo murder vibes, characters where great, the world building was insanely good and just a set of books I couldn't put down, genuinely superb writing for a LITRPG series.

3. 4. A Soldiers Life 1 & 2 by Alwaysrollaone

Surprise surprise, more LITRPG. These are some recent genre favourites and it's easy to see why, but these are very empty when it comes to the characters themselves with little to no emotions and a lack of depth. Fun read.

2. Proving Grounds by Tom Elliot

This was good, classic, LITRPG, lots of action and some good world building, I don't think it did anything overly different, however, it set up really nicely for what I expect will be a very good book two.

1. Paths of Akashic - Initiation by Bainin (Can't find a twitter)

2025 starts with LITRPG and will probably carry on with it. It's fun, it's easy to read and I really enjoyed this. Big Defiance of the Fall vibes.

I read this a while back, real fun but TBF anything with a Primarch is super fun.
