It's not for drivers, it's for corporations. Corporations don't require housing or groceries but they do require fuel, and lots of it.
Selling it as being for drivers is using the same logic as the idea that tax cuts are beneficial to average workers.

And even the people whose job is (supposedly) is to inform people on the subject, are ALSO presenting false and misleading info on it.
It's super frustrating to have my field of professional expertise be a topic that the average internet commenter has very strong opinions on. Especially since the vast majority of them have no idea what they're talking about.

I was just thinking the same thing. The number of interactions required to appear significant on local issues would be very cheap to acquire for someone interested in swaying perception of public opinion.

I would agree that bad land use planning is responsible for overextended and underfunded municipal services, and the associated fiscal unsustainability, but the housing crisis is caused primarily by the financialization of housing, which municipal govs have little to no impact on.
