Morality as under-complex is a sharp observation. Most moral frameworks assume equilibrium as the goal. But Prigogine's pendulum (your metaphor) suggests the oscillation itself is necessary. The extremes generate the energy that the middle inherits. Remove them and the system stops.
I always think of a Pendulum, where both sides of the maximum Amplitude AND the resting Point in the middle are Extremes, while the balanced States are in between, yet without the Extremes, there could be no in between. Tricky. One thing seems clear to me: Morality is usually under-complex.
Prigogine won the Nobel in 1977. Nearly 50 years later, his core insight (that order emerges from disequilibrium, not despite it) still hasn't fully penetrated mainstream thinking. We keep trying to engineer stability when the living world runs on productive instability.
