This is immature of me as Tim makes a serious point, but the headline reminds me of a classic DangerMouse episode in which loos rise up against the human race.

🐝 Inside The Hive: What Manchesterism Actually Means
🍯 What would Andy Burnham’s Britain look like? Ros Taylor explores the Manchester mayor’s governing philosophy – derided by some as more a vibe than a replicable political model, but celebrated by others as key to the city’s recent success
Lovely to review fiction for a change. My take on Francis Spufford’s Nonesuch, its quiet Christianity and a couple of very strange angels.
THREAD: The IEA global energy review 2026
* CO2 record high, but growth nearly ground to halt
* Clean energy shaved 3bn tonnes off CO2
* Fossil-fuel power pushed into reverse
* Age of Electricity "confirmed"
* "Extraordinary" solar growth
* Batteries up 40%
* EVs up 20%
1/10

Going to write one for her 65th on 1 July, it's only right
Some things are better left to the tide.
Nice! Unfortunately I fear some of it is already outdated (a few of the predictions have come true, which is satisfying but dull for the reader!)
The idea was that I would be like their daughter, advising them on how to Get Online. I was dropped after a few months …
And I recall very well what some older colleagues at the Guardian thought of the ‘New Media Lab’ and ‘Guardian Unlimited’. They loathed us.
And in a few ways they were right to be scared.
I briefly had a bad column in Woman & Home in 1999 explaining the internet to older women.
Jeremiah 5:31 KJV
Definitely had an impact in HR
It's a wild wild world...
@desmog.com's @joeygrostern.bsky.social invites you into the Sri Lankan network pumping out ai-slop to rage bait Brits on energy and call for more drilling in the North Sea.

(Infact North Sea oil & gas would displace max 3% of imports)
You can always tell when you say something really unwelcome on Bluesky.
I’ve heard this argument quite a bit, because it keeps universities afloat and because migration to study is, in principle, a good thing. Unfortunately it can also mean uncomprehending students submitting AI-written coursework and taking any job they can get after their course.
This will be difficult to read for anyone who thinks recruiting more foreign students to British universities is automatically a good thing, regardless of how you do it.

While I know really young people are few and far between on Bluesky, I’d still like to talk to an under-25 who’s been looking for (or found) a job and AI was part of the recruitment process.

So long since a realistic case for EU membership was made. Thanks to @bestforbritain.org for making it today. Big obstacles but the halfway houses are undesirable.
Manchesterism! What is it, what isn’t it? My piece for @thehousemag.bsky.social, featuring a great picture of Andy Burnham riding a bee.

Now I know what you’re thinking.
Feel free to DM me about them!
If you want to be contacted by journalists, please don’t ask to be messaged on LinkedIn. Those of us who don’t pay for it can’t do that …

Happy to say that both The Fall and Engels made it through the edit.
With thanks to @ryanswift93.bsky.social of @ipprnorth.bsky.social and @mds49.bsky.social for their insights.
