As seems frequently the case w/AI discourse, the focus is on the tech when it should be on the people, the behavior.
Decisions being made with spreadsheets is the beginning of the end. What does it mean to see that happening to tech? Transformation, but what kind? 寧為太平犬...

Bearing in mind that SV groupthink is why we had to get out (physically), but what he says about the lack of movement between companies strangling innovation is totally correct, and I don't see anyone tracking this.
It probably doesn't matter bc we're in such a massive disruption, but interesting.
Bums me out a little that I think there's not much tech discourse on bsky -- but what there is seems quite high quality at a glance.
Anyway, I think most folks seem to be missing the point of what Yegge is saying. AI adoption rate isn't really the interesting part. The suffocation of the valley is.
Screenshotted excerpt from linked article reading as follows: "In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan to address the global climate crisis. When colleagues warned the chief justice that he was proposing an unprecedented move, he was dismissive. “I recognize that the posture of this stay request is not typical,” he wrote. But he argued that the Obama plan, which aimed to regulate coal-fired plants, was “the most expensive regulation ever imposed on the power sector,” and too big, costly and consequential for the court not to act immediately."

New York Times got receipts on John Roberts being like, 'I know this isn't how anything works, but a Democratic president is about to implement a policy!!'

1. In a landmark ruling, the Montana Supreme Court has declared that the constitution, one of the most progressive in the nation, entirely protects transgender people.
The ruling is even insulated from SCOTUS decisions, due to how state constitutions work.

Had a dream last night about making a game about what it's like to live with POTS. Protagonist is a fainting goat of course.
I still vividly remember my usually-very-buttoned-up engineer dude friend in colleage screaming like a little girl when one of those zombie dogs burst out of a door we were walking by. Played it as a group in the dark. Good times.
Wow, Bremerton!

Just wow. I guess this is all over now? Kickstarter advertised on FB, 99% AI. YouTube videos of "Karen", "Director of Music" at Columbia (an AI-generated dude), half-done website with AI-generated "team" (4 CEOs). $8k funded. Reported, but wow, @kickstarter.com .

A photograph of a stand-up sign on a sidewalk. It reads "Cafe on the Ave", "Cherry Blossom Festival" and "Blossom Corn Dog", "Festival exclusive limited time only". There is a photograph of a hand holding a pink corn dog with bright pink sauce drizzled on it.
It's a terrible idea but I respect it.
@shiftshapr.blacksky.app ought to be on Ghost :) but this is exciting work:

When I say a golden age of the internet is still possible, this kind of thinking is what I mean. This is the work.
I remember signing that Maven petition... and then having a very specific horror that if Google didn't build Maven, someone worse -- less competent, less ethical -- was going to do it.
The last 4 years have felt like that continuously.
"This obsession with Claude is a kind of AI psychosis, though not of the kind we normally talk about, and it afflicts critics and opponents of the technology as fiercely as it does its boosters. You do not have to use a language model to let it organise your attention or distort your thinking."
The records are unclear (just because they were on battlefields doesn't mean they were combatants) but it certainly seems like there's enough there that Shōgun would be justified in showing a lot more women in armor.
I saw a fb post about some battle remains showing "50% of samurai were female" and thought it must be BS. It is, but it's not as far from the truth as one would think.

Curiously, a lot of highly anti-AI science fiction writers write stories with positive representations of AI.
Horrendous.
<< "It's this number that I don't recognize," Foertsch recalled. "For some reason I answered it, and the voice on the other end said, 'Hey, Greg, this is Vince Zampella. I heard you have a game you want to make. Can you tell me about it?'" >>

I would back your kickstarter. Freaking love siphonophores. <3 🪼
Oh god you're right. It's clearly a vector for VALIS. He would have become one with the cloud.
