No!! 😂
Not opposed; LoSH is just one of my comics blindspots. I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that I was pulling from an adjacent well.

Really enjoy seeing what kind of influences folks identify in Free Planet. They're generally all over the place because of our effort to pull from foundational, profoundly influential scifi prose, especially Cordwainer Smith and Robert Heinlein.
(I've never even seen DS9 but I know it's beloved!)
THANK YOU for engaging so thoughtfully with Free Planet. We made this thing for deliberate readers, so it's enormously gratifying to wake up to this.

The other book I read this weekend was Aubrey Sitterson and Jed Dougherty’s Free Planet. Easily one of the most inventive new Sci-Fi texts I’ve chanced across, even if it does wear its influences (40k, DS9, Dune) on its sleeve.

I've posted about it on here before but Free Planet, about an immediately post-revolutionary space government dealing with what comes next, is so fucking good man

I still think about this podcast frequently.
@ashcanpress.com, @ethansparker.bsky.social and I are all digressive & tangential enough that we left a lot on which to chew.
Also: Thanks!
Excellent company in which to be; thanks, John!!! 🫡

FREE PLANET by @aubreysitterson.com and Jed Dougherty (no relation). We've all seen the big, glorious sci-fi revolution in movies and comics. But FP asks "what comes next?". Nothing easy, that's for sure. Bombastic and brash but still thoughtful, it's a great read. It's out now!
Does complete freedom include the freedom to secede?
The Freedom Guard is confronted by that very question--in bloody, explosive fashion--in FREE PLANET #11. Landing in comic shops April 8.
Never Seen Again
2014 digital sketch. The last known drawing of these four adventurous tourists. I am certain I was under the influence of movies like The Mound and Descent while drawing it.
It's not for everyone. But if you're ready for novelistic complexity, an expansive use of the form that must be experienced in print, a comic designed for people who like to read...
FREE PLANET #11 is waiting for you in your local comic shop right this very moment.
No visual medium offers the freedom of comics and FREE PLANET luxuriates in it, with charts, graphs, maps, essays and even chess diagrams.
Designed for exploration, there's simply not another comic like FREE PLANET; issue #11 lands in comic shops 4/8.
FREE PLANET #11 lands in comic shops April 8, with my favorite cover thus far.
A geopolitical space opera about the first completely free planet in human history, FREE PLANET takes a maximalist approach unique to the comics medium: A full meal on which to ruminate for an entire month.
FREE PLANET #11 features what I believe to be the best single panel @jebriodo.bsky.social and I have ever done.
Sex, violence, justice; FREE PLANET #11 has it all; in comic shops everywhere April 8, only from @imagecomics.com.
Can a free society have prisons? How do you square the freedom of the individual with the rights of the many? With security? With hunger and poverty? What concessions are necessary? Which are acceptable?
Is a truly free planet even possible?
