I used a Teensy to control a Hamamatsu C12880MA Mems Spectrometer.
The control signals were timer and counter/interrupt driven. With DMA to acquire the spectra values.
It was based heavily on your Audio library.
The main loop only dealt with serial messages.

I don't think those types of panels are a good idea, but the energy they produce would go a long way for many people.

I grew up in a community where many homes had no power. For those that could afford solar, a 100W panel was a game changer (no more candles). 500W, you can run a fridge.
I guess my point is, in a crisis many homes could survive on 800W of solar.
