Clear definitions and robust verification are essential to avoid loopholes, ensure fair competition, and maintain the environmental effectiveness of CBAM.

Finally, stronger rules on scrap are necessary. If companies claim lower emissions based on post-consumer #scrap, the burden of proof must lie with them.

On international carbon credits, my position is clear: the discussion is premature. The market remains volatile, and concerns around environmental integrity persist. Talks about including such credits at this stage are counterproductive.

That said, I look forward to working with other political groups on the possible inclusion of adjacent goods, as long as this is based on the same methodology. This is how we keep downstream expansion predictable, justifiable and workable.

CBAM must remain targeted, and grounded in objective criteria. I support the Commission’s methodology to determine which products are included in the downstream scope. We should address carbon leakage where it is most likely to occur, without turning the system into a CN-code Christmas tree.

This concern has been broadly shared by MEPs across the political groups during the #ENVI Committee meeting last March.

Companies need certainty to invest in decarbonisation. That is why I propose deleting Article 27a on “serious and unforeseen circumstances.” A broad emergency exemption risks undermining the credibility of CBAM and ultimately creates a laggard’s dividend at the expense of innovative industry.

De rekening van Trumps buitenlandbeleid komt keer op keer terecht bij de mensen thuis. Juist de mensen met kleine buffers worden hierdoor het hardst geraakt. Ik vrees dat het niet de laatste keer zal zijn. Permanente oplossing: zonnepanelen, clean tech, etc. Niet voor happy few, maar voor iedereen.

Echte bescherming begint bij onafhankelijkheid. Minder fossiel, meer groen.

Europa is verslaafd aan fossiel 🛢️

Dat heeft een prijs die verder gaat dan de energierekening. Zolang we afhankelijk blijven, voeden we conflicten en blijven mensen kwetsbaar. Elk jaar nog sturen we miljarden naar het buitenland voor energie die #Europa beter zelf kan opwekken.

5/6) Also ideas to de-risk investments, such as Contract for Difference (CfDs), in critical raw materials, and voluntary stockpiling as a way for companies to mitigate risks, are considered.

4/6) In the report, I focus on more predictability around strategic projects open calls and strengthening European waste capacity for permanent magnets.

3/6) Because the Nexperia case showed clearly: one Member State’s action, or inaction, can have consequences for all.

Strategic autonomy requires stronger cooperation, accountability, and decisive action where risks are high.

2/6) Europe cannot keep outsourcing its future. For critical raw materials, we must reduce our dependence on third countries and build our own capacity.

If we truly want resilience, we need to invest in extraction, processing, and recycling — starting with better monitoring of our value chains.

Precies 20 jaar (en 2 dagen) geleden werd ik als 20-jarige benoemd tot raadslid in Helmond. Ik was toen vooral gefrustreerd: de politiek had het vaak óver mij en mensen in mijn buurt, maar zelden mét ons. Dat veranderde op dat moment. #GR2026

Gas van Poetin en olie uit het Midden-Oosten vormen niet de oplossing voor de energiecrises waar we keer op keer in terechtkomen; ze zijn juist de oorzaak.
