It does: thank you!

The Disney Doctor Who deal continues to be so funny to me. Imagine being Disney and having negotiated an agreement with one of the enduring classics of sci-fi and kids entertainment and your reward being 'a lore-dense introduction and fish erotica'.

Yes! Each set piece follows on logically from the last because the characters learn something from the experience. It's very tightly plotted, and it sprinkles through a few characters who have a plot function as a character trait so none of it feels like a reach.

I think one detail about Tremors that is easy to overlook is that the characters act reasonably as they learn more about the monster.

Makes the situation a bit more tense when you're not actively rooting for people to die on account of critical brain failure.

I reckon we could get Bacon back. It's been long enough and popular enough that if they make it not too much hard work, why wouldn't he? :)

Creature features? They usually get talked down as involving bad effects and badly plotted stories and implausible creatures in the circles I frequent, but I'm sure you have a higher class of internet acquaintances :)

"We discuss horror" it says in the preview, when I said "creature features" but cheers for the HU on the forum :)

This is fascinating - there are other journalists in a position to know this who are saying the same. That Starmer doesn't try to know what's going on and just accepts what he's told without testing it.

If so, that's utterly disqualifying as Prime Minister.

Boris Karloff is said to have hated the term “horror” film, due to the element of revulsion in the word “horror”. He much preferred “terror” film.🫣

“Tremors” is one such“terror” film, and fits wonderfully well with the Bacon/Ward comic relief.😂

James Whale understood this particularly well.😁

In part, it's because the artist has deliberately made Jesus' left hand look like it could be Satan's.

Discovered that BlueSky has a lot of love for Tremors (1990), and everybody's kindly ignoring that I said it's an 80s movie. Maybe it's because it was Fred Gummer Day a couple of days ago.

Bacon clearly had places to go, but yeah it's a shame we'll never have that now. All the remakes and reimaginings we get now, I'd have loved to see them creaking around like the original Ghostbusters in the new movies and sniping at the new kids.

It can stand up to any of them, definitely. I wouldn't be embarrassed to talk about it in the same breath as Jaws or Kong.

Definitely: a script that knows what it is, what is has to do, and makes sure everyone enjoys getting there.

And it rattles along at pace, finding enough different ways to have people scared of the ground beneath their feet to keep it moving and then getting out before it overstays its welcome. Perfect popcorn fodder. On ITVX in the UK at the mo, if you'd like to try it.

You can feel that they're in love just because you can see what their life is, but when we're watching they don't moan or snipe once. It makes them a team, a unit. So when they get eaten, it hits you. There's a lot writers can learn about making affecting characters quickly from this film.

The exemplar is the old couple who get killed fairly early on. We get a few sketched in details so we can place them: they live in the middle of nowhere, in a caravan, suffering constant tribulations because they have a dream of building their own house.

It's got everything it needs in spades. The creature is well realised and a scary idea, but the human characters are where it really earns its place. Bacon and Ward are a great double act, oozing mutual affection and charm and could carry the thing on their own. But they don't need to.

Watched #Tremors - an 80s addition to that long a venerable Hollywood tradition of the creature feature. One of the oldest genres in cinema, and rarely discussed as one because there's a feeling these films are a bit crappy. Well Tremors is great so shove it.

Epilogue of Doctor Who and the Dinosaur Invasion.

Ezekiel- Dinosaur Invasion. The same passage is referenced twice in the Hulke led Piccolo Making of, first by the author(s) of p107, and then by the guest clerical contributor on p110. This and the Bible references in Doomsday Weapon led young me to picture Hulke as a strongly committed Christian.

OK #DoctorWho people: I have a clear memory of the 3rd Doctor stopping at a bookshop window and pointing at a copy of the Bible to suggest that Christ was a visiting alien. I'd thought it was in the Target novelisation of the Daemons, but I can't find it. Did I make it up?

I know the expression is "free, as in beer": I just think it sounds better to say "free, as in willy".
