I just followed a lot of smart PhD people and realize my last post was like, stupid notes on my silly brain
I personally just have to find silly ways that work for my brain and treating papers like fictional universe lore helps me store things in a functional way
sorry!!!

Good luck little dude!! He is so cute. Make sure to get something for yourselves to calm your nerves while you wait as it can deffo be hard to not just sit in panic (speaking from experience)!!
If you do, then that's great and it adds more to what you get out of the current article you are reading. If you don't, you either get another piece to go read if its relevant for your research goals or if you doubt the author's claim enough to dig down that rabbit hole.
I know this seems like basic knowledge for grad students, but for me it's been helpful to now think of works that exist like different novels do in the same shared universe. You get the reference to something that happened in another book but you don't have to know that one totally in-depth.
As I read more and more research papers I'm starting to know the references cited and it's kinda awesome. I kinda changed my mindset from thinking about research pieces as each their own separate novel with the learnings from prior research and instead as a conversation with each other.
Does anyone have any tips for remembering people's names? I feel like I'm just terrible at it, both for people in-person and for papers/books I read (which I really need to remember the names for ๐ญ). I can remember the books of fiction authors more frequently, but totally terrible with academics.
Hey, the visual presentation for this article seems to be erroring out. At least on mobile (android). All other articles are still loading properly.
@theatlantic.com hey, the cory booker article seems to have something wrong with the CSS currently on mobile so it doesn't display properly.. might want to alert the tech team about a bug.
okay so who asked for a scrubs reboot???
they already tried this with that season we don't ever talk about because scrubs only had 8 seasons and that's a fact.
I love Scrubs (top 5 tv show ever), but jesus christ. does it start acknowledging the season-we-don't-talk-about?? or??
[guy who sang baby beluga] the festering belly is splitting, each half digested soul fumbling for a knife
@theatlantic.com any chance of ever getting some sort of Digital+ plan, that's between the digital and the premium plan, but just to be able to not have ads? I don't want the physical copies or totes, I just want to not have ads when reading on the app.
There are also SO MANY PEOPLE COUGHING AND SNIFFLING EVERYWHERE in the Indy airport. And with the flu vaccine this year mismatch I absolutely don't want to risk uh, uncontrollable vomiting and such
Have like eight hours of flying today because going from midwest-ish to tiny airport so connecting (and I'm loyal to Alaska Airlines so hello Seattle!) and NGL have to keep reminding myself eight hours of fogged up glasses are not as bad as the current flu and mystery sickness. Aaaaaaaahh.
This is such a mood
okay seriously why do so many people just use their phones on speaker in airports and on planes??
all I want for Christmas is more #Umamusume veteran space

The top panel could also read "Overwhelming to do list for the holidays that I want to avoid" (for me).
"trump just declared war with venezuela via truth social" is a real sentence i just said out loud
I would like to report princess kawakami for being too relatable to all students #umamusume
OpenAI employees are very excited about how well their new AI tool can create fake videos of people doing crimes and have definitely thought through all the implications of this
(for other BSG nerds here, I intentionally attribute it to *Commander* Adama - I've seen other places attribute it to Admiral Adama, but that is incorrect for when the statement was made.)
/end super nerd alert
"There's a reason why you separate military and the police. One fights the enemy of the state. The other serves and protects the people. When the military becomes both, then the enemies of the state tend to become the people." - Commander Adama, Battlestar Galactica - Water (2004).
Too applicable.
the president of the united states wants to use the american military to kill american citizens on american soil. that's the whole story!
President Trump and Congressional Republicans just shut down the government because they refused to stop your health care costs from rising.
Let me be clear: Republicans are in charge of the White House, House, and Senate. This is their shutdown.

Good morning to everyone except Narita Taishin
So, I mostly hide from social media and enjoy that freedom all the time, but figure at some point I should post a catch-up over the year. So, that'll be coming! But so far grad school is great - and also super hard! But I've gotten to read and engage with so much that I care about.
must be incredibly frustrating and disheartening to have federal funding that was promised to you for important work suddenly and arbitrarily ripped away
I pray this is a joke or I feel ten thousand years old
I work with too many youngins who might actually not know this ๐ญ
