Irugo, named after their spotted young, are our closest living relative. That's why it's such a shame they attack people on sight - who knows what discoveries we'd make if only we could study them directly?

Every time I see a spider, I grab a cotton swab, dampen it, and slowly approach the arachnid.

I get as close as I can and, sometimes, they’ll reach out an exploratory leggy, and then shove their face in for a big drink.

This thing is everything to me

An all white snowy egret wades through shallow water, it's yellow foot just below the surface.

I don't think I'll ever tire of photographing the Ardeidae (herons, egrets, bitterns). I love watching them stalk and hunt in shallow water and the lace-like breeding plumes are a particular treat to see. This is another photo from the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center on Mustang Island.
