Coachella is trying to wipe all of the footage of The Strokes protest set so I’m gonna post it here. The last images on the screen made me cry.

If you are an old bitch DJ and you play Madonna’s “Bring Your Love” in the club and you do not mix it with Inner City’s “Good Life” — just pack it up.

🎈 17th April 2026 marks the 2nd anniversary of Koda Kumi’s 18th studio album, Unicorn
Unicorn was an odd hybrid of half original songs and half covers, when it really should’ve just been a cover album.
The covers are all great. The original songs are terrible.
It was a similar thing for me too. Was never a fan of Ayu, but she really won me over with Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus.
I wasn’t a fan of Game when I first listened to it, but I came around eventually. It took me watching Perfume’s live performances for the album to click.
Whenever anybody asks where to start when getting into Perfume, my advice is always to watch their live performances.

🎈 16th April 2026 marks the 18th anniversary of Perfume’s debut album, Game
Game features songs which are widely considered Perfume classics. “Polyrhythm”, “Chocolate Disco”, “Secret Secret”, “Game”. Even one of the single B-sides from this album is a classic.

🎈 Today marks the 16th anniversary of Ayumi Hamasaki’s 11th studio album, Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus
Slight disconnects between the branding, the title and the sound — as per Next Level. But Rock ‘n’ Roll Circus was a MUCH better album. Ayu got her shit back on track.
That Lady Gaga and Doechii song is not good.
Lady Gaga should have just dug up “Fashion” and put Doechii on it.
If Kelela’s “Washed Away” was produced by Hikaru Utada.

🎈 8th April 2026 marked the 11th anniversary of Ayumi Hamasaki’s 15th studio album, A One
The best song on this Ayumi Hamasaki album is a cover of a Hikaru Utada song — which feels crazy to say.
SNL UK is absolutely putting its American counterpart to shame dear lord
My stance on Cosmic Explorer is that it has some good songs (“Miracle Worker” is my shit), but it’s not a good album.
Cosmic Explorer was a bit of a mess. The album cover didn’t correlate to the album title. The album title didn’t really mean…anything. The music was scattered as a result of it being a 3-years-of-singles-and-tie-in-songs dump and Nakata’s sound being all over the place.

🎈 Today is the 10th anniversary of Perfume’s 5th studio album, Cosmic Explorer
If there is one thing that will split the Perfume fandom, it’s Cosmic Explorer. Easily one of Perfume’s most divisive albums.
Nintendo not using the OG Star Fox theme in Star Fox 64 and every game which came after was a dumb decision. And if Nintendo put out a new Star Fox game, they need to bring this theme back. I don’t care if Nintendo are still pissed at Hajime Hirasawa. He gave them a GIFT.
The best thing about The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was the inclusion of Fox McCloud. That shit was great. I enjoyed every second of it. But that in and of itself is a bit of a problem.
🧵 7/7
The movie also doesn’t do a good job of explaining certain things to understand the world. Things are just happening and power-ups are just doing things on assumption the audience will get it. Even I was like ‘Wait, what’s that?’ at things from games I hadn’t seen / played in ages.
🧵 6/7
The highlight-reel approach also crowded The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. There were too many Super Mario game themes, worlds and characters. The Galaxy of it all got smothered by shit from Sunshine, Odyssey and even Yoshi’s Island — each which could have been its own film.

‘ThE sUpEr MaRiO gAmEs NeVeR hAD dEeP sToRiEs’.
Super Mario games focus on gameplay. I don’t think it’s not unreasonable to want a deeper story in a FILM ADAPTATION of a video game, instead of a 90 minute gameplay sequence. Especially when it would better the film.
🧵 4/7
I get why illumination and Nintendo took the highlight reel approach with the first movie — they didn’t know if they would get another chance. But they know now that Super Mario movies are gonna be a thing. So, they should focus more on world-building and storytelling.
🧵 3/7
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie speed-runs through a lot of Super Mario stuff. As a fan, that was cool to see the first-time around. But, now I want more than that. I want actual world-building and a richer story. Not a Super Mario highlight reel.
🧵 2/7
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
I don’t dislike it. But I don’t think it’s great either. I was kinda bored through a lot of it.
The film is more focused than the first one, but it’s still not focused enough.
🧵 1/7
I want Pixar to make a film about a pop girl group, that might be based on TLC. The main villain is their manager, who might be based on Pebbles. And there is a malevolent force who controls the music industry, that might be based on Clive Davis.
The OG Star Fox is my favourite Star Fox game and I adore the soundtrack. So, I screamed internally when I heard this in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Especially because Nintendo don’t dip back into this soundtrack as often as they should.
‘Drama’?
So, Hajime Hirasawa was the composer of the OG StarFox soundtrack. But he fell out with Nintendo and quit working for them over the soundtrack (rights and ownership). So I wonder if he knows they used his compositions in the film, and how he feels about it.
🧵 3/3
In Super Mario 64 DS, giant characters normally cannot crawl. However, reading a sign pounded halfway into the ground forces the character into a crawling pose. When giant, this results in the character's giant posterior completely blocking the entire screen.
I forgot all about Tears of the Kumi Kingdom.
K-pop companies these days regularly treat concepts like extreme rebrands, and I think this hurts their acts. When each concept is changing the identity of the group, they aren’t able to lock down a sound and a look.
