He has a strange definition of “becoming”.

Have you had your Marker today?
In honor of their announced induction into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, I’m gonna be spinning more Sade this week! Starting with this live clip that shows the boys can hold their own as backing vocalists. The always timely “When Am I Going to Make a Living” from 1984:

April 8th again, huh?
Happy Rex Manning day, to those who observe.
The cover of the 2006 album Rabbit Fur Coat by Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins, next to a running record player
Slept in, first spin of the day is coming with brunch coffee. The honeyed vocals and harmonizing here was a moment for me. It was the first time I remember feeling that a new recording sounded this much better in the grooves.

The cover of the 1960 album Infinity in Sound, by Mexican composer & bandleader Juan Esquivel & his Orchestra
Staring the day with Juan Esquivel and His Orchestra. One of the few LPs I keep around in stereo as well as mono. Today was rich low-end single-channel. Sounds great at 66!

The cover of the 1977 album Running on Empty by American singer-songwriter Jackson Browne featuring a large drum set in front of a 2-lane highway passing between arid hills. It sits next to a running record player.
After 3 months of working on things that required headphones & audio scrutiny (not art related) all day, I finally get back to tasty tunes in the workspace. Today is started with a turn from the Pretender.

I assume there aren’t exceptions for an MFA holder with lots of teaching experience (shoulda finished that PhD!). Too bad, I check a LOT of the boxes. If I’m wrong, maybe I’ll get my materials together…

I hadn’t seen the video until today, and now it’s more of a guilty pleasure. Not because of Sweeney, just because I’m a sucker for a good midway scene.

I can 100% confirm the accuracy here - except it’s worse than 12 hour days.
I do go gig work for these joints when I need to get bills paid, and they push for 100 hr weeks.
Such a great album, that track is surely one of the (many) highlights.
I’ve only seen this building a few times, and not since 2007, an even in that fog I immediately knew what it was while scrolling past. Iconic, indeed.
