The US Economy Is Replaying the 2000s, Not the 1970s When it comes to understanding the economy, the pull of the past is hard to ignore. Cause and consequence are difficult enough to parse in real time. How about predicting a sequence of events? Near im...

Economy too weak, prices too high, and war in Iran? The comparison to the 1970s is easy to make. But I think it's the wrong one. I write for @bloomberg.com about the parallels our economy has right now with the mid-aughts.

Minnesota sues Trump administration for evidence in Good, Pretti killings It’s the latest and most drastic legal maneuver by state officials to try to gain access to federal evidence from shootings during Operation Metro Surge.

ICE killed Silverio Villegas González 4 months before Good & Pretti. No officials in Illinois are doing things like this.

Today should be your 38th birthday..
When you lose your son you lose more than a child you lose a piece of your heart and your joy. Life is forever altered, and nothing can ever fill that space. Yet in my soul, he remains, my precious boy, forever loved. His laughter, his smile, and his love are woven into who I am. My love for him will never fade. Yor are my pride and my joy - you've made a change that cannot be broken..

Conservative corporate media takeover is bad no matter which way you slice it, in part because news influencers—who a lot of people get their news from instead of traditional news media—rely heavily or entirely on traditional news media sources that they comment on and aggregate for their audience

Women’s Hockey Gold Medalists Reject Trump’s Two-Faced Invite The president has a history of declining to host solo White House celebrations for women’s championship teams.

The U.S. primary hockey team declined Trump's invitation to attend the State of the Union.

If they had integrity, the men's team would follow their lead and do the same.

Whether they are closing today or not, it is undeniable that the general strike had pushed people in some way. Restaurants are making statements explaining why they’re not closing, expressing solidarity, and pledging to donate % of sales. People are engaged and that says something.

The people of Minnesota have executed one of the most impressive civil resistance campaigns I can remember:

- Organized a city wide general strike
- Maintained nonviolent discipline amidst violence
- Mobilized 10,000s in subzero temps to protest and watch ICE
- Flipped public opinion against ICE
