Will millionaires flee states that try to tax them? Wrong question.
Why are we improvising tax policy state to state when it’s the federal government that should be dealing with health care, child care and affordability?

Economy too weak, prices too high, and war in Iran? The comparison to the 1970s is easy to make. But I think it's the wrong one. I write for @bloomberg.com about the parallels our economy has right now with the mid-aughts.

New: 150 unionized ProPublica workers are on strike TODAY over AI, layoff protections, wages, and more.
They're asking readers to not visit ProPublica or engage with content on other platforms. It's the first work stoppage of its kind at the newsroom.

A newsletter from me! I talk about the technical words that economists have a hold over, words that carry enormous weight in how we view the economic struggles people experience.
What is a recession? If nothing else, its a lens into how people view the unemployed.

ICE killed Silverio Villegas González 4 months before Good & Pretti. No officials in Illinois are doing things like this.

ICE has arrested and detained a Nashville journalist who reported stories critical of ICE. She’s married to a U.S. citizen and has been seeking asylum here after fleeing death threats in Colombia because of her journalism there.
They’ve already sent her to Louisiana.
Today should be your 38th birthday.. When you lose your son you lose more than a child you lose a piece of your heart and your joy. Life is forever altered, and nothing can ever fill that space. Yet in my soul, he remains, my precious boy, forever loved. His laughter, his smile, and his love are woven into who I am. My love for him will never fade. Yor are my pride and my joy - you've made a change that cannot be broken..

Conservative corporate media takeover is bad no matter which way you slice it, in part because news influencers—who a lot of people get their news from instead of traditional news media—rely heavily or entirely on traditional news media sources that they comment on and aggregate for their audience
The best thing you can do in light of the Ellison takeover of Warner Brothers invest your time, energy, and money in supporting independent creators and independent distribution networks and independent venues. It is absolutely crucial to make independence a viable option.
Now that CNN and WBD are set to become state media in a sale to Paramount/Oracle/TikTok, it is especially important to support independent media.

The U.S. primary hockey team declined Trump's invitation to attend the State of the Union.
If they had integrity, the men's team would follow their lead and do the same.

A push to name one of Chicago’s snowplows “Abolish ICE,” clearly linking the humorous pun to efforts to oppose President Donald Trump’s mass deportation effort, won the city’s annual snowplow naming contest, officials announced.

Whether they are closing today or not, it is undeniable that the general strike had pushed people in some way. Restaurants are making statements explaining why they’re not closing, expressing solidarity, and pledging to donate % of sales. People are engaged and that says something.
The people of Minnesota have executed one of the most impressive civil resistance campaigns I can remember:
- Organized a city wide general strike
- Maintained nonviolent discipline amidst violence
- Mobilized 10,000s in subzero temps to protest and watch ICE
- Flipped public opinion against ICE

DHS has shot 12 people during immigration enforcement operations since September:
The Timberwolves-Warriors game in Minneapolis has been postponed by the NBA, sources tell ESPN, in wake of a man shot and killed Saturday in a confrontation with federal agents in the city. It's the second shooting there in a week, third this month, involving a federal officer.
