You look into the void of the Goonhole and sometimes it winks back

Happy birthday to Mr. Osterberg. Raw Power by Iggy and the Stooges was a life changing album for me. It was the first time I heard rock and roll played the way I heard it in my head, and it made me feel a little less alone in the world.
Those are both true stories
You want to really fuck yourself up, read the details on the AFP missing persons list

It's one of the awful things about Australia: it's vast, and the land is unforgiving.
People can disappear into it deliberately for years or unexpectedly forever. Things can be done out of sight just ten steps from a long road, but often the country needs no human hand to do the taking.
I gave that up as impossible. Mine is me at 11. A Kerr Avon bowl cut and eyes like pissholes in the snow.
Murder commissions also make great gifts for the goths in your life! Folks have hired me to (fictionally) murder their parents, partners, and even their kids!
Man killed by carriage, horse arrested at scene
America would’ve been a much nicer country if their rulers hadn’t structured their entire economy and society and culture around pleasing the auto industry and then we wouldn’t have had sentences like this
I can't jack in anymore cos of the persistent antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection my old pimp gave me for holding out on him
Had to have the socket pulled by a former dentist above a laundromat in Baltimore
Inglourious Basterds made at least one workable policy suggestion that might be relevant in this century and knives are cheap
If you like horror at all then Alan has got a book for you, just statistically

What is the point of that shit
It's meringue but worse and coated in kiwifruit slurry
My Gran used to cook like that
Thought I hated Brussels sprouts till my 30s when I discovered they can actually be delicious with butter if you don't boil them grey first
Someone once told me their generation did that cos of the child mortality rate before food safety regs

He won't remember a damn thing, he has dementia
My abiding memory of Piers Morgan is him arriving face-first down the stairs to a Kinky Friedman gig at the Basement
Absolutely maggoted, upside down, shirt riding up
I was there with a journo from the Herald, who glanced over and said, matter-of-factly, "I see Piers is here"
I've got cosmic horror, crime horror, dark urban fantasy, occult, supernatural, folk horror, small town horror, creature feature, military horror, city horror, and more, all in short stories, novellas, standalone novels and series. Tell me what you like and I bet I have a book for you.
Couldn't point you to one off the top of my head but I have a feeling that's the basis of a fair bit of Australian fiction, dating back to Picnic at Hanging Rock

The thing about AI checkers is you're just feeding the output of one AI into another one
If the fuckup rate is 20% on each of them then the result of the check is gonna be 36% likelihood of fuckup
You're just compounding fuckups
10 more checks and you're at 100% bullshit, mathematically

IDK, that's why I liked them
I mean they did COLERIDGE ffs
in that way that civilisations often look back at history and find it too barbaric once we all know better, I shudder to imagine future generations looking back at the mid-2020s and saying 'in grandpappy's day they used to put money down on whether their neighbours were going to brutally die'
your regular reminder that the cheaper the client the worse they are to work with, let them pivot to AI tbh they deserve each other
Would immediately buy the mid-century novel that began with this sentence.
a bear vacuuming a floor as a japanese salaryman looks on in terror
found out about the manga kuma gurashi which is like those ones where a manic pixie dream girl comes into a salaryman's life and starts doing all his domestic chores for him to heal his heart except in this one it's a realistically drawn bear and the salaryman is terrified on every single page
“I went ahead and made a browser extension.
Kill Yr Substack intercepts every Substack link (even on custom domains) and redirects it to `archive.is`.
Substack's numbers go down. You still get to read the thing tho.”
what a great workaround 🤗
I can't quite believe (a) how quickly so many people started outsourcing their decision-making and critical thinking to machines owned by psychopathic oligarchs, and (b) how quickly that made everyone really, really dumb.
