📺 📰 📻 While majorities of Americans who most trust newspapers and mainstream TV news support birthright citizenship, only 41% of those who must trust Fox News do.
Just 29% of those who most trust far-right outlets support birthright citizenship.

Last year, we polled Americans on their views toward birthright citizenship, finding that 67% favor the “U.S. Constitution’s existing guarantee that all children who are born in the United States are automatically granted U.S. citizenship, regardless of their parents’ citizenship status."
New Research Alert! @prri.org 's latest spotlight analysis shows why considering race when looking at the views of Christian nationalists (CNs) is vital. Here, we find that Hispanic and Black CNs hold vastly different views on immigration than their white counterparts.

Two-thirds of Americans (67%) agree that “the ability of Americans to freely criticize the government without fear of punishment is a right that seems less protected than in previous years,” though Republicans are far less likely to agree (41%) than independents (70%) or Democrats (90%).
Republicans (54%) are more likely than either independents (20%) or Democrats (5%) to favor allowing ICE officers to regularly conduct surveillance and arrests at sensitive locations like schools, hospitals, places of worship, and social service locations.
Just 1 in 3 Americans (33%) hold favorable views of ICE officers, down 6 points from 39% in September 2025. Favorable views of ICE officers have declined among Americans across partisans, with drops among Republicans (from 78% to 73%), independents (from 34% to 26%), and Democrats (from 10% to 6%).
NEW: PRRI’s latest survey finds that 35% of Americans rate President Donald Trump’s handling of immigration favorably, compared with 61% who rate his actions unfavorably. The survey was conducted among a representative sample of 5,479 adults living in all 50 states between Feb. 10-18, 2026.
Breaking Research Alert! My organization @prri.org just released a major survey about Americans' views on immigration policy a year into Trump's second term. There is a lot to unpack, but here are a few of my top takeaways.

7 in 10 Americans (71%) agree that “Transgender people deserve the same rights and protections as other Americans,” compared with 24% of those who disagree.
This is split across party lines, with 88% of Democrats and 77% of independents in agreement, compared with 57% of Republicans.
Mississippi (47%) and Arkansas (50%) are the only states without majority support for same-sex marriage. Majorities in every other state and the District of Columbia support same-sex marriage, with the highest support in Massachusetts (85%) and Rhode Island (85%)
Majorities of all major religious groups, except for Jehovah’s Witnesses, support LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections.
Americans ages 18-29 have shown a gradual decrease in support for LGBTQ nondiscrimination laws, from 80% in 2015 to 70% in 2025, largely driven by young Republicans
NEW: PRRI's 2025 American Values Atlas finds that 72% of Americans support #LGBTQ nondiscrimination protections, 65% favor same-sex marriage, and 59% oppose allowing businesses to refuse service to LGBTQ people on religious grounds. These % have declined from 80%, 69%, and 65%, respectively, in 2022
