When women enter the workforce, they become less religious. This is because they have less time, but also because working provides them with a social role and validation that substitute religion.

Is working making women less religious?
In a way, yes.
Globally, women are more religious than men, but their religiosity is declining much faster.
One interesting reason is discussed in the book "Donne e Religioni in Italia" by Stefania Palmisano and Alberta Giorgi:
No I don’t think they put peanut butter on pancakes, my comment was mainly to explain why I love putting peanut butter everywhere- I got addicted to it in the Netherlands.
Peanut butter goes on everything but I lived in the Netherlands…
Ok I’m not the only one 🙃
Today I was looking for an article which made an argument I wanted to quote, but there was no way to remember who the author was...
After a while I realized it was ME. I was the author of the argument.
I'm not sure if it's a sign of getting old, narcissism, or simply that I'm ready to get tenure
I found a Dutch- themed tulip park in Italy which is definitely a very niche thing but I picked tulips and showed off my pronunciation of “Gouda”
400?! Wow!
Yes who else explains theology to the guy who's like elected the greatest theologian in the world?
Today's listening suggestion is the Classical Ideas Podcast, by Greg Soden. @gregsoden.bsky.social

I am biased because I did an episode years ago, but it's THE podcast if you want to know what's going on in religious studies
What’s the word for when someone explains to the Pope how to pope? Popesplaining?
Can you just let me relax?
The world: is terrible
Me: let’s cheer up by reading about Jonestown!
I think it will be divided... in a Catholic country like Italy politicians cannot criticize the Pope, or else they'd lose most of voters...
- it isn't very smart for the Pope or any member of the US clergy to condemn migration, given that many US Catholics have a migration background.
Also, Catholicism should preach inclusion of the marginalized... so Pope Leo maybe is just being Catholic?
- there is no "list" to become Pope, the Pope is a bishop elected by the Conclave of Cardinals, it isn't like a political party
- the very meaning of "Catholic" is "universal", so a Pope isn't supposed to deal with one country but to all Catholics
Recently, Trump posted something interesting on his social media Truth. He criticized pope Leo XIV for being "weak on crime" and "terrible", saying that he was on the list to become Pope only because he's American.
So, I feel I need to clarify a couple of things:
Oh please I have too much work
There was a moment in my life when, as I was stressed or upset, I would take a hot bath sipping cold white wine and reading Simone De Beauvoir.
The ultimate self care
Edited by Caroline Starkey, Emma Tomalin, and Anna Halafoff, this special issue is very interesting because it brings together case studies from various parts of the world and discusses different religious traditions, often overlooked in the literature
READING SUGGESTION:
Today's reading suggestion is a special issue in the Journal of Contemporary Religion: "Women, Religion, and Digital Counter-Publics"

I'm still not in the phase I still have too much impostor syndrome to bash someone during Q&A....
Usually my strategy with my enemies is to befriend the other enemies and socially isolate them...
Adulthood in academia is when you start considering conferences asking two questions: will my friends be there? Will I find nice food?
I strongly suspect the Pope isn't happy - he has never been too warm with the White House...
My guess is that he chose a specific type of conservative Catholicism connected to anti-gender movements, used by the far-right to justify anti-migration and pro-life politics.
We will probably have to read the book to know more!

After growing up in a poor family in Appalachia (as he writes in his first memoir, Hillybilly Elegy) and loosely Evangelical, he chooses Catholicism as an adult.
But he does not seem to be always aligned with the clergy and even had some controversies with the Pope
Is JD Vance Catholic?
I am exploring JD Vance's use of religion online and he announced that he's writing a second memoir about his conversion to Catholicism.
But why Catholicism, especially in the US?
I like the songs so much, I haven’t seen it live in very long…
Grazie buona Pasqua!
Interestingly, when I started my PhD I have learned that some people watch this movie as a type of Easter "ritual" (I believe that I read it in the book "Religion in the Media Age" by my mentor Stewart Hoover).
