I can guess who this is! The same interviewer asked me what I would do if a butterfly was in the library at closing time. I said that if all the manuscripts were in boxes I couldn’t see a conservation issue but was told it might set off the intruder alarm. Didn’t get the job!

Now we get to the real reason the tapestry being loaned: ‘The Bayeux Museum is scheduled to close at the end of August for a €38m (£33m) renovation which would have necessitated the moving of the tapestry regardless of any deal with Britain’. But still, I’ll look forward to seeing it!
