Now we get to the real reason the tapestry being loaned: ‘The Bayeux Museum is scheduled to close at the end of August for a €38m (£33m) renovation which would have necessitated the moving of the tapestry regardless of any deal with Britain’. But still, I’ll look forward to seeing it!

If that’s the case he would remember the frequent bomb scares on the tube due to the IRA. I’m a few years younger than him but it’s obvious to me that London has vastly improved since the 80s.
