Working on the copyedit of my new book, An Injury to All: The Unmaking of the British Working Class.

An Injury to All tells the story of how the British working class was pushed from the centre of political life to the margins. It's hitting the shops in October!

Yep. In fact, the real failing of students was when we stopped requiring them to regularly search a library catalogue for their reading and instead produced lists with hyperlinks that students simply had to click. As soon as they have to go off list, they’re lost.

Following the price surge, the British right are pedalling a fantasy of self-sufficiency through North Sea oil. This has no serious basis in reality. Britain has been a net energy importer for 20 years. It has nothing to do with net zero and everything to do with decades of declining production🧵

With news today that Transport Scotland is considering substantive changes to the M8, in 2022 we held a public conversation at the university and invited practitioners, politicians and the public to contribute their views. You can read the full paper here:

Taxpayers should not fund any form of religious education. Don’t understand why CofScotland prayers when I was at school was the default position in a modern secular society. If you want to believe in magic fairies and impose arbitrary ethics onto others, do it in the privacy of your own home.

I can’t believe how little people get paid in London year days for third sector and think tank roles that require so much experience. Saw one the other day for £35K. £5K more than I was earning in 2015 in such an environment. Insane.

Yeah but I think times have changed in the last decade. Inequities like this have really gotten worse.

I’ve been trying to disentangle the energy and creativity of urban policy of the Blair years, from his darker politics for our students. Sadly for most people of a certain age, the better urban polices are drowned out by his foreign policy, PFI initiatives & allowing house prices to run rampant.
