Excited for another pile-on where people ask me WELL WHAT DO YOUUUUUU EXPECT THEM TO DOOOOOO but here's the thing: I expect them to do fucking something.
They are elected officials. They represent us. They have immense power, even in the minority. If they are too afraid to wield it, step aside.

A video screen shows a very close up of a man's beefy face. A man and a woman sit at a computer desk and another man stands behind them. The silhouettes from MST3K are at the bottom of the screen.

I know we are all tired but coming into the Chicago municipal elections we need to talk about Michael Sacks. Michael Sacks put $900,000 into Elect Chicago Women, the AIPAC affiliated SuperPAC. People are talking a ton about how rich people and special interests buy elections. Good. And there's more.
A photo of a watercolor painting in a black frame. The painting depicts a two-story brick building with a band of blue sky occupying the top third or so of the image. The shadows of a row of overturned barstools run across the wall and painting
16 of my watercolors will be on display at Lula Cafe for the next few months. Eight of these paintings are for sale, and you can find details on my website. Prints are available as well.

This is a big part of why I think we need more health professionals like me in the Senate. We need to stack the deck with experts who care about the people b/c we can’t count on appointees to do their jobs. Andreaformaine.com #MEPolitics

Yoon and Prince Andrew wishing they had a friend like John Roberts.
I know we’re all just used to Trump living in his Mad King era, but this isn’t how this is supposed to work at all. The entire reason the Constitution puts this power in Congress is so that whether or not we go into a war of choice isn’t just one man’s decision.

A graphic in pink, blue, and green that illustrates how recent many Black History events are to the current day -- ranging from 1619 to 2024.
I'm sure we've all seen the graphic that lays out the United States ' relationship with slavery. It's good, but I never thought it was quite impactful enough. So I made my own.
I've used a few key events, including my birth, to highlight how recent these events are in history.

True I don't know much about tipping culture in 1972. That makes sense if it was just a bar tab, instead of dinner.
Not a great tip.
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

My neighbor told me he keeps losing falcons to the widening gyre so I asked how many falcons he has and he said he just goes to the falconry and gets a new falcon afterwards so I said it sounds like he’s just feeding falcons to drown with the ceremony of innocence and then Yeats started crying.
Heyo, Chicago pals: Quick note that the executive vice president of the Bob Loquercio Auto Group is vociferously defending the murder of Alex Pretti.
The auto group has 16 locations in and around Chicago, listed below. Please take your business elsewhere.

Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti “We are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the ‘hero’ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed. Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.

Text: “A friend said those of us who live in Minneapolis should write about what's going on here for folks who live elsewhere. You need to know that whether you're a Republican, Independent or Democrat, the Constitution is being violated by our federal government. This is not about catching criminals, or even deporting people. It is about punishing an entire state, including citizens, for not supporting the president. Everyone in my part of Minneapolis is affected. On our streets, ICE is stopping people of color and demanding their papers. In America. US citizens do not have to prove citizenship to ICE. Yet people are being intimidated, some cases beaten up and detained, for requiring ICE to follow the law. ICE needs a judicial warrant to enter homes. Yet there are documented cases of them ignoring the law - violating a bedrock constitutional principle. Americans of color are staying home, afraid to go to work, school, to grocery shop, or fill their cars with gas. This isn't just "illegals" or immigrants with valid work permits, it is citizens who have had their cars rammed by ICE for merely looking Hispanic. Businesses are closing. Schools are 50 percent full. When they are open, fascists are calling in bomb threats because the president decided to make us a meme. After a daycare teacher with a valid work permit (through 2030) was snatched from her workplace, parents (and grandparents) have had to organize to watch their SCHOOLS, to make sure conditional rights are observed. This is being repeated throughout Minnesota. Imagine trying to do your job or live you life while also taking volunteer shifts to make sure the federal government doesn't act extrajudicially. Because of ICE's documented abuses, neighbors have organized to monitor federal actions. This observation is legal, as long as it doesn't interfere with a valid action. Yet since ICE killed Renee Good, they are increasingly stopping this observation, breaking car windows and …”
People not in Minnesota: please read this excellent summary of what life is like in Minneapolis since the murderous scum ICE swarmed here. And more are on their way. By local reporter / writer / bike dude / legend @dbrauer.net .
