We just moved into more sun, so I would definitely consider this now. I've noticed a few more apartment buildings with split air conditioning units recently too, so the wiring connections are possible. Depending on power connections, I wonder what municipal or provincial rules could even hold it up.

Where does balcony solar stand in your state? Dozens of states are considering legislation to allow residents to use DIY plug-in solar. Follow the efforts here.

It's crazy how fast this map is expanding! Call it plug-in solar, balcony solar, DIY solar—it all adds up to more opportunities for renters and households that can't make rooftop solar work to cut their electric bills with a simple plug-and-play:

Please keep this in mind. I know so many severely mentally ill people including myself and none of us want to harm anyone at all, mental illness does not make you a fascist imperialist piece of shit who loves genocide. He chose this ideology consciously.

Being remembered forever isn't difficult. All you have to do is carry a bag of onions everywhere you go & hand them out as gifts. People will think you are some kind of quaint onion fairy. "There goes the onion lady!" they'll say as you pass out onions. Work smarter, not harder.

"Cognitive surrender" leads AI users to abandon logical thinking, research finds Experiments show large majorities uncritically accepting "faulty" AI answers.

This 'uncritical abdication of reasoning itself' is particularly common when an LLM’s output is 'delivered fluently, confidently, or with minimal friction', they point out." arstechnica.com/ai/2026/04/r...

Yup, the vehicle funnel onto Whyte doesn't help. We need a two-way Sask Drive, and to punch through both 80 and 76 Avenues to create four more lanes of throughway and backup travel. I wish the rail company would just sell their land already.

Vehicles stretch down Whyte Avenue on a busy spring day

Vehicles stretch down Whyte Avenue on a busy spring day

Synchronization is a problem, but could be solved by timing with nearby lights. When you sit and watch for a few cycles you can clearly see the pedestrian crossing is really not the issue that slows down traffic. Ex: Here's WB traffic backed up to 100/99 St., four months before scrambles in 2021:

3 weeks ago 5 2 1 0

I really don't see why we can't just add transit priority for vehicle cycles and keep the scrambles.

3 weeks ago 4 2 1 0

Woof. We wasted years of opportunity to improve the signage for people walking, train drivers on red light turns and improve timing along Whyte, and we could absolutely keep scrambles while adding transit priority when lights change. I am not confident they'll get this right.

The Elephant in the NDP race The NDP Convention starts tomorrow and everyone’s attention will be focused on the leadership race, naturally.

Crucially, the goal in these regroupments isn’t to win elections, it’s to change political culture. It’s to actively bring people into the movement. This is how you build an engine, without which Bold Ideas wither on the vine and die. noraloreto.substack.com/p/the-elepha...

Students react ahead of vote to remove EDI from U of A recruitment policy - The Gateway In light of the University of Alberta’s proposed elimination of EDI hiring policies, multiple student associations have expressed concern.

The University of Alberta votes tomorrow on removing EDI from hiring policy. There have been several new articles about it leading up to the vote.

But these are missing something important. This is about government censorship and institutional freedom.

I’m so sick thinking about how Trump, Elon Musk, and especially JK Rowling’s vile harassment campaign of lies and slander against Imane Khelif resulted in even more restrictions on women athletes. Meanwhile, Khelif is an actual inspiration to women and girls wanting to pursue boxing!

We coulda shoulda been scooping up all the smart and talented folks. But we won't even hang on to our own brain power with government and university austerity, not to mention our own suspect border and immigration nonsense.

Transgender women banned from Olympics by new IOC policy The new policy limits eligibility in women’s events to biological females based on genetic screening beginning at the 2028 Games.

The IOC has announced a trans and intersex athlete ban requiring an invasive SRY genetic test for female athletes.

In the 20+ years trans women were eligible, only one ever competed and none ever medaled. This is solving for a problem that doesn't exist.

Kat Abughazaleh on Losing, Mutual Aid, and What Comes Next The upstart candidate for the Illinois House fell short on election night, but she may have pioneered a new way of community-based campaigning.

The number one driver of right-wing radicalization is a scarcity mindset. When people’s material needs aren’t met, they’re far more likely to align with someone who says: ā€œBe scared, and the answer is hating your neighbor.ā€ Mutual aid is a direct counter to that. newrepublic.com/article/2080...

Jury orders Meta and Google to pay woman $6 million in social media addiction trial The verdict marks the end of the first-ever jury trial over whether tech giants should be held accountable for social media addiction. It may influence the outcome of 2,000 other pending lawsuits.

We are blaming way too many of our current problems on social media, but this doesn't bode well for the major platforms. Time for some digital regulation! www.npr.org/2026/03/25/nx-s1...
