"It shouldn’t be long before EXIT 8 sits alongside Vincenzo Natali’s CUBE as cult classic cinematic mystery boxes." Let's get liminal, liminal / I wanna get liminal.

"Goldhaber and Mazzei use the 1978 film as a jumping off point, but the specifics of the movie seem to matter little to the filmmakers – and even less to the characters themselves." FACES OF DEATH is hardly interested in its status as a meta-sequel. But is that good or bad?
While it certainly isn't without issue, I love this movie.
We talked about it on the Feminine Critique, paired with Ugly Stepsister, and it just made me love it more!
Great write up!
"Football was always the breeding ground for horror; it just took someone this long to figure it out." It's been six months since HIM was released in theaters. Are we ready to admit it's one of the best horror movies of 2025?
ETERNAL EVIL OF ASIA is a blast and a great intro to Cat III films for people who want the weird without the brutality. Happy to have the chance to write about it for my @certifiedforgot.bsky.social column!
"THE ETERNAL EVIL OF ASIA is as over the top as it gets, but it’s a Cat III shocker that delivers more smile-inducing fun than wince-inducing cruelty." @fakerobhunter.bsky.social returns with a look at another cult classic.
"Nicolaou’s film never takes itself seriously for a single second, but as pointed commentary, it doesn’t take American society seriously either." We have one rule: when in doubt, watch TERRORVISION.
"EXIT 8 isn’t a film built around story so much as perspective." Neon's latest import is a clever adaptation of a popular indie horror game.
I walked out to a desolate parking lot after seeing Land of the Dead in theaters, apparently a massive storm swept through and it looked like the end times. A+ would experience again
LAND OF THE DEAD whips ass, actually.
This resurrection weekend, give Romero's deliciously unsubtle Land of the Dead another life.
"Prudhomme announces that the killer is recreating the resurrection with stolen body parts and that their work will culminate on Easter." If you're looking for holiday-themed horror films, might we recommend the Christopher Lambert vehicle RESURRECTION?
"Even at the end of their world, they aren’t content to stay dead. We shouldn’t be either." Here's @xtinemakepeace.bsky.social on LAND OF THE DEAD, George Romero's post-POST-apocalyptic zombie movie.
"Once again, we see a tug-of-war between an older style Korea and a newer cultural transformation, a vibrant clash of two distinct eras." Make your parents proud and visit the church of THE WAILING this Easter weekend.
"There are worse things to be than a film that wears its admiration for THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT on its sleeve." HUNTING MATTHEW NICHOLS promises documentary-style horror for the true crime era. It mostly delivers.
Yes! This is a seriously underrated movie. I wrote a piece about it a few years ago for the now-defunct website Horrorwood Presents, and it definitely deserves more attention. It's a horror movie about the failure of municipal infrastructure.
"SAVAGELAND may deal with a horrific and unthinkable situation, but it’s the very real world we live in that provides the backdrop to it." We're just guessing here, but we think SAVAGELAND is going to be one of the decade's standout horror films when all is said and done.
Two years ago, Kiyoshi Kurosawa's CHIME was released as an NFT, so we entered our credit card information into a sketchy website so we could talk about it on the podcast. With CHIME (finally) hitting theaters this weekend, now's a great time to catch up on an old episode.
"One of the starkest differences between the two versions of DARK WATER is the presentation of mental health and events influencing it." Who here things we're overdue for a reevaluation of Walter Salles's DARK WATER adaptation?
"The genius of SENRITSU KAIKI FILE KOWASUG! begins with its beguiling episodic structure, immersing us in the X-FILES-esque adventures of amateur occult investigators." This remains one of the most-read pieces at Certified Forgotten - and deservedly so.
"Although Venezuela recently made international headlines following another stolen presidential election, the country’s political and humanitarian crisis is not new." International horror often gives us a crash course in the history of other countries. INFECTION is a great example.
"Despite the very pro-Christian message of the film, it brings to light some interesting points about how young women are perceived in Christianity." With Easter just around the corner, we're sharing some of our favorite pieces on religious horror.
One of the best horror docs in my opinion. Fantastic.
"Documentaries like 1000 WOMEN IN HORROR do a wonderful job of interrogating the old guard while carving out space for the next generation of horror greats." Donna Davies's latest film explains why horror has always been by, for, and about women.
"Kopfrkingl in THE CREMATOR is scary because he is so malleable, which has much to do with the fact that he does not stand on any strong ideals or sense of self." Here's Tori Potenza on THE CREMATOR, a post-war horror film that's impossible to shake.
"Freed of the incredulity of its predecessor, READY OR NOT: HERE I COME is able to achieve a level of cartoonish violence that suits the franchise." ICYMI: Radio Silence's latest action-horror hybrid is the rare sequel to outshine the original.
A fun listen, in part because as wrong as Monagle is about READY OR NOT, he's spot fucking on with READY OR NOT: HERE I COME.
(*And* he agrees that both SMILE 2 and BLACK PHONE 2 are better than their predecessors?! Scary.)
I may be a grumpy old man, but even I know the importance of video to a successful publication. That's why @donatobomb.bsky.social and I have started publishing our 30-minute @certifiedforgot.bsky.social episodes on YouTube with full video.
