Just horrifying to watch once excellent universities voluntarily destroying themselves.

If you haven't been paying attention to niche national security law, you should now. This surveillance program collects communications from all over the globe--and when folks talk to people in the US, the US side of the convo is stored and the FBI can sift through it without a warrant.
A lil 🧵:
A tweet from Representative Thomas Massie that reads: I just viewed 2 Top Secret FISA docs. 1) FISA Court opinion that raises serious concerns about FBI implementation of FISA 702. 2) letter by Senator Wyden describing a secret government interpretation of FISA law. The Constitution requires I vote No on FISA 702 reauthorization.
I sent a classified letter to House and Senate colleagues about a secret interpretation of surveillance law that every American should be concerned about.
Representative Massie is right. The Constitution requires EVERY member to vote against a clean reauthorization.
Seems like the DC media should be asking every rep or Senator who votes for a clean reauth if they read Wyden's letter...
I just finished and enjoyed @annaleen.bsky.social “Automatic Noodle”. Great world building, one scene I’ll never stop thinking about, & just perfect for my brain right now. If you’re in the mood for light-hearted science fiction, (& especially if you live/lived in San Francisco) a strong recommend.
Love this from @hrdag.org -- "Systems of data collection shape knowledge"
It’s infuriating when a woman comes forward about a man raping her in his hotel room after drinking and the response is “Why would she go to his room?” “Why would she drink with him?” This is Mike Pence logic. Women should be allowed to hang out with men without expecting they will be raped.
I will admit, I have an especially deep enmity for people speaking authoritatively about things that happened in rooms where I was present and they were not.
Tim Sweeney of Epic, on Twitter/X: "EFF should be honest and just say it's because of board politics. They have every right to engage in freedom of association in deciding where to be present or absent. They don't need to make up fake reasons like this, and EFF leadership lacks integrity for doing so."
Somebody just sent me this, and I'll just say... I'm on the @eff.org board, and I promise we don't spend any time talking about tweet strategy. We *do* spend lots of time thinking about how to make tech markets more competitive for companies like Epic, tho. (I just don't use Musk's CSAM site. 🤷🏾)
If the DOJ’s history killer memo stands, Trump - and every future president - will be able to operate in total secrecy.
We can’t let that happen.
My latest for @theintercept.com:
Book unboxing of Transaction Denied. 🎉📖🤗

Trump lapel pin-wearing bootlicker Brendan Carr went from writing "A newsroom’s decision about what stories to cover and how to frame them should be beyond the reach of any government official" in 2021 to threatening outlets he doesn't even regulate over completely accurate reporting in 2026.

Wow, Turning Point: The Vietnam War just received 5 Emmy nominations. Incredible!

Unboxing copies of my new book Transaction Denied. What a surreal moment.
The dog is also excited. a.co/d/072cZqNx
Thanks for helping to spread the word.
As more people find out about the book, I get more emails from people telling me they lost their financial accounts due to legal speech or legal donations.
Turns out our financial system isn't working for many, many people.
Quote card from FPF Chief of Advocacy Seth Stern that reads: “Confidential sources are the lifeblood of investigative journalism. Sources who come forward at great personal risk won’t do so if they don’t trust that their identities won’t be revealed. “Some of the most important news stories in American history have come from confidential sources, including stories that have brought down corrupt presidents. That’s why Trump is so obsessed with leaks. It has nothing to do with national security.”
Journalists don’t work for the government and their right to publish government leaks is protected by the First Amendment which, despite President Trump’s efforts, remains the law of the land.

Thanks @fightforthefuture.org 🙏
I'm talking about journalists losing financial services in this interview with @kgosztola.bsky.social
This will be fun! I hope to see folks there
Review from High Times: "Reitman is not floating some abstract thesis about speech and democracy above the mess of real life. She is showing how corporate power behaves when nobody is looking, and how quickly that certainty can wobble once public scrutiny arrives." hightimes.com/culture/tran...
So wonderful to see the interview with Cindy Cohn of @eff.org on the Daily Show. Let’s make her incredible book a bestseller. 🚀 youtu.be/QkC1aK7jfLo?...
Speaking out against humanitarian crimes should never cause one to lose a bank account.
I have had my @eff email account back one day and someone already emailed there asking me to be on the board of their nonprofit.
How did they even know??
I should add that to my endorsement blurbs. "Excellent" - Mike Masnick. :)
I had a great chat with @masnick.com about my new book, the role financial companies should play in policing online speech, starting @freedom.press, and jawboning. Listen to the Tech Dirt podcast on your player of choice or at this link: www.techdirt.com/2026/03/31/t...
If you are in the Bay Area, it would be wonderful to see you at my book launch next week. Come hang out and we can talk about what role financial companies should play in policing online speech. April 7 in Berkeley & April 9 in SF. RSVP: financialcensorship.org/2026/03/12/c...
I feel like Jon Stewart isn't used to having litigators on his show. You can tell Cindy is just having a blast and could debate free speech online with him all night. Then she ends with a big smile and "this was fun." So good.
