Furthermore, these effects appear most pronounced among political partisans, and increase even among those whose investments happen not to do well.

Thus trust is not only a cause but can also be an effect of financial market participation.

We argue financial markets can allow people to invest in mutually beneficial ways in the endeavors of anonymous others. We show that experimentally assigning individuals to trade in financial markets increases generalized trust by ~6pp or 25%.
