Happy to return to Cornell University, my alma mater, to give a talk today at a conference organized by the Polson Institute.
I will be speaking about civilizational justifications of war and annihilation in the current conjuncture. renewingdevelopment.org/program.html

Jason Hickel questions U.S. support for Israel's genocidal crimes against the Palestinian people. Shahram Khosravi imagines Iran one year after the bombs have stopped falling. Ayça Çubukçu examines how Western civilizational supremacy is under threat.

"And today, once again, from the genocide in Palestine to the attempted destruction of Iran along with Lebanon, we see in action what Du Bois called 'that chiefest industry — fighting,' which Rubio’s mighty civilization has excelled at."
The WWI era is such a relevant precedent for our moment.

thanks @aycacu.bsky.social for the invitation!
President Trump has criticized Europe for staying on the sidelines in the Iran war. But many European countries are quietly playing a crucial supporting role. www.wsj.com/world/europe...
The US/Israeli attack on Iran is neither legal nor legitimate. These states are fully responsible for the death and destruction to follow now.

Last night, we had the pleasure of being joined by Tareq Baconi to discuss his new book 'Fire in Every Direction'. In conversation with Mai Taha and @aycacu.bsky.social, they shared their thoughts on the themes of the memoir, including political consciousness, desire and displacement.
New essay responding to @aycacu.bsky.social’s talk on campism and internationalism at Historical Materialism last year. I agree with much of her critique but try to push further on what a different practice might look like from Britain, and from within the Fourth International tradition.
@histmat.bsky.social and @versobooks.bsky.social Thanks for having offered a platform for these reflections.
Ayça Çubukçu offers a sharp critique of "campist" left politics and discusses the potential for an internationalism from below.
This argument from @aycacu.bsky.social becoming more important and relevant by the day unfortunately

The "incompetence" of international law in the face of imperial aggression is part and parcel of that law. Law's empire has been empire's law. #Venezuela

I think of Graeber and Wengrow's "The Dawn of Everything" every day. It's a long book so if you've been meaning to read it or simply can't read a long book right now – understandable – here's a lovely paper by Ayça Çubukçu about its principles & Graeber's work.

What role does the issue of race play in understanding the question of Palestine?
Join @aycacu.bsky.social next month at this @LSELaw event, which will focus on the colonisation of Palestine as something which cannot be understood outside the grammar of race.
