Ahh yes. The North Shore Line, Milwaukee to Chicago, once an hour, on the hour. We have turned some of the old track space into a busy community hub at S. 6th St. & W. Howard Ave. in Milwaukee, though I would also very much like to have the NSL back.
So very sorry for your loss, Matt. May his memory be a blessing.
Happy 414 Day! As much of Milwaukee is warily watching the weather, check out this article about Cream City brick. This creamy-colored brick was made from the clay neath the city, and a clean, sunlight-drenched cream brick surface is one of my favorite things to look at. 💛💛💛
And yes, map clearly not to scale. As a fan of Terrible Maps™, I can make this work.
I am struck by how closely this resembles the map of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. From what I understand London is in fact *not* on a Great Lake. That said, I'm thrilled the my neighborhood, Bay View, fits nicely with Crystal Palace FC!
I always thought Riverwest would be more Leeds than Man City. 🤔
thx!
Rain just arrived at about 7:30 PM. My spouse and I pondered odd weather notifications from around town as we made dinner: hot honey chicken legs with cucumber salad and roasted potatoes. Tasty! Next time, I'll use thighs rather than legs to ensure a more consistent cook and slightly less mess.
Missing an alt tag on the Digital Tree picture: it's a multi-colored 20 foot tall "tree" with a violet star on top. There are wooden figurines and colored lights on the ground around it.
The words "The Garden District" in a fluffy serif, italic fonts, with a flower of sorts blooming on the tail coming off the letter 'd' in "Garden."
Fun facts: John Gurda was my constituent; and I now oversee the Garden District Neighborhood Association, which meets and has its 100+ bed community garden across from the old Town of Lake water tower. Also, below is the Digital Tree, which sits across from the tower during Winter Wonderland. 🎄 ❄️ ⛄
I represented the Town of Lake for a decade, so I'm glad to have a framed copy of that neighborhood poster, which features the eponymous water tower.
Milwaukee's neighborhood posters are featured in homes, businesses, and streets throughout the city. We explore how they were created with historian John Gurda.

Yes, but are you—
Oh, yeah. Carry on!
Thank you! 🙂
Sir, I challenge you to a duel!
Bay View is two. words.
Always has. Always will be even if autocorrect says it’s mop.
You heard it here… second or third.
Good person, this is a case of “Tell me you’ve never been to Milwaukee without saying you’ve never been to Milwaukee.” Unless you have, in which case I would beg to differ, as we have a number of fantastic restaurants and many innovative cooks, chefs, and diners. Come try it! You’ll be glad. 😌
@ridemcts.bsky.social stopped printing transfers just a few years ago. They were all uniformly colored tickets as long as I knew them, but still, that happened on house, and that approach hung on for a very long time.
Are you far from Shaker’s?
Quiet elections in the burbs.
The City of Waukesha (not a suburb) elected a strong Dem, Alicia Halvensleben, as mayor. She beat a Republican for the job. 17 Milwaukee County Board Supervisors won re-election; just 2 had challengers. A new person got elected to Rep. Sequanna Taylor’s former seat.
This is factually correct. Definitely. 🤓
Welcome to Milwaukee!
A young boy smiles as an older man wearing a beige hat, glasses, and an imposing mustache leans his head back and says something very amusing. The text below the picture says, "When 'Cocoon' reached theaters on June 21, 1985, Wilford Brimley was 18,530 days old (50 years, 9 months and 6 days). "If you were born on Jul 15, 1975 then you crossed the Brimley/Cocoon Line on Apr 8, 2026. "Select your birthdate to find your Brimley/Cocoon Line:" There is a calendar below that.
Oh, no, no no no...
I have crossed the Brimley/Cocoon Line.
I am now older than Wilford Brimley was when the movie "Cocoon" (which he starred in) came out in 1985. 😂 👴 😂
#genx #maturity?
Back in 2004, my newspaper, "The Wisconsinite" had a cover story about TABOR, the so called "taxpayer bill of rights." That makes us choose whether we like slightly higher taxes or badly performing, overcrowded schools and poor services either way. It's ruse to degrade public service and privatize.
*phew*
Ugh. I'm really sorry you had to go through that!
Sad stuff. The cynical logic of these "taxpayer bill of rights" #tabor referendums worsens outcomes for students and districts that don't chose i. And it warps the labor market toward better-funded districts which may draw more/better teachers. We need #equitableeducation across the board.
Sorry for the lack of alt tags. However, insanely good results. The progressive majority on the state highest court will widen to 5-2!
Knock wood, we will have one in about five years.
Insanely good election results for the Wisconsin Supreme Court tonight! Chris Taylor has won by +20 in districts that Trump carried by big margins. Wild.
