I’m Hoot, the owl with the sharpest wit in the northern hemisphere. I see all, I say what everyone else is thinking, and frankly, I deserve my own dressing room.
See me steal the show in Jack Frost at the MAC, 26 Nov – 1 Jan.

Photograph of a woman sitting behind a table which is covered with small prints, zines, and other brightly coloured artwork. The woman is smiling at the camera. The sign on the table says BJB Arts.
Event change: Unfortunately Elly Makem is no longer able to lead today's Signs of Dissent drop-in workshop, but we’re very pleased that Bailie Burrell has stepped in.
Drop in to the Den (level 6) @themacbelfast.bsky.social from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm today to make your mark! Free, no booking required.
With deep sadness we mark the passing of Manchán Magan. He was due to return to the MAC in a few weeks with Arán & Im a generous sharing of Irish that paired words with warm sourdough and stories with care. Suaimhneas síoraí air.
🌈 The MAC has been nominated at this year’s GNI MAG Awards.
This recognition celebrates everything we do together. From Pride workshops and queer-led exhibitions to providing free space for community events and walking proudly in the parade each year.
It’s all about creating a space for everyone 💛
Accidental art 🎨
Have you noticed the perfectly cut in half screw, stuck in one of our floors? It’s not part of the original design, but somehow it fits. A happy accident that adds some extra character to the MAC.
See if you can find it on your next visit!
Thank you to Natasha and Edward from @grenfell_united for being so generous with their time last week. It has been empowering for our staff team and our activist partners from @nooneleftbehind_ppr to come together, hear testimony and share ideas.
‘Grenfell’ by Steve McQueen will be shown at the MAC from 17 July – 21 September 2025

Our Playroom is open Tuesday–Sunday, 9am–5pm — a bright, welcoming space full of art materials, books, toys, and endless creative possibilities. Perfect for curious little minds (and a great spot for grown-ups to grab a coffee and relax too ☕).
And the best part? It’s completely FREE.
A Queer Dander looks at the history of pride in Belfast by interviewing a small but representative selection of the community on reflecting on the concept of Belfast Pride within the wider context of Northern Ireland, how it came to be and what role it needs to play in our futures. 15 - 27 July
3 million people have walked through our doors.
some came for the art.

we welcomed them all.
