Xuzhong recently reported the first example of enantioselective C-C bond formation by a flavin dependent halogenase via halogenative semi-pinacol rearrangement. Very cool…

Way behind on promoting work from folks in the group… not sure I ever plugged Autumn’s work on selective phosphorylation of small molecule substrates with the kinase PsiK. Great collaboration with Graham Cooks’ group at Purdue and Ryan Phelan at AbbVie:

very sorry to hear this… such a great legacy in his music.
so close, yet so, so far away. an edit striking a few unnecessary details:
But life properly lived is dangerous. It’s dangerous to people who refuse to hate those they are told to hate, to people who refuse to oppress, to conquer, to exploit.

publican and smart bar are two of my favorite places in chicago. this bathroom in basel looks like the child of their bathrooms’ pagan union.
have to give them a pass on this…
i was initially put off by alchemist in basel because the glassware was not properly assembled, but i found out i could order absinthe feuerzangenbowle-style. and that you get forceps and a mortar/pestle at table… also the food was excellent. shared pak choi, spätzli, lamb shank, and pork belly.
having a great time in basel. plattfon record store is a strong recommend.
wording makes it sound like this could affect grad students also, but i didn’t read the bill text…
that could have gone on for an hour or so…
