'Outrageous industry propaganda': how I described on RTÉ Liveline yesterday the video and book promoting Sitka deadzones sent to every primary school in Ireland.
So much more to say on this, but glad to have at least got a few words in to dispute such misinformation.

Yesterday I spoke on RTÉ Liveline about the book and video promoting Sitka sent to every primary school in Ireland.
One thing I didn't get to mention is that the tree is also highly invasive. Coincidentally, I later found one in my own place.
We may as well be planting rhododendron everywhere.

We wrote to the Dept of Education and Youth today over school materials promoting Sitka Spruce Forestry while omitting ecological harm. The booklet by industry bodies is one-sided, ignoring biodiversity loss and water quality impacts. IWT calls for safeguards on school messaging iwt.ie/sitka_spruce/

Dublin City Council has said that efforts to enforce rules on Bull Island have "proven futile", a remarkable statement.
Would we tolerate people running amok in the National Gallery or at Newgrange? Hardly, so why can't we have rules at important nature sites?
