Intentionally meant to dilute opposition strongholds. Anti-democratic.
Gas tax breaks are bandaids at best. Real solution is to help low & middle-income Cdns get off fossil fuels. Invest in solar, heat pumps, batteries, EVs. Tackle barriers, offer real incentives & fund w/ windfall tax on Big Oil (who are laughing all the way to the bank). Cleaner, cheaper, healthier.

Nice job. The coal mine settlements are a lot more than $80m. The two on which we have details (from Australian securities filings) are: Atrum $142.8 m and Montem/Evolve at $95 m for a total of $237.8 million. One other settlement still confidential and other claims pending.

Two years ago, Premier Smith was quoted as wanting to double the Alberta population by 2050 (roughly growth of 200000 per year).
Trying to make sense of the premier’s announcements today in the context of some of the things she has trumpeted in the recent past.
In 2024, Danielle Smith wrote a letter to Justin Trudeau to complain that they didn't get *more* immigrants than their planned allotment. (She also wanted more Ukrainians specifically, and we all know why).
