Things like NYC's congestion pricing works because they have a robust public transit system and I can support programs like that to encourage use of transit but that is different than taxing or privatisation of all roads.

I'm not sure you'll ever get me to support a strongly regressive tax like this. Lower income brackets are more likely to have to commute to their jobs than higher ones.

Or just early in the planning/prototype stages and never got past that. I'm sure lots of things were talked about that never make it to the final product. How many consoles have unused or barely used expansion ports.

WTF are you talking about? I can replace my phone for a couple hundred bucks and do so much more often than a car. I have nothing against cars being updated, I don't want to have to rely on it. I also trust apple and Google to make decent software than some small dept at an car company.

And don't lock into shit software when they have a perfectly functional phone right there! I have two family members who just bought Toyota hybrids with around 200k miles (and refreshed batteries) the update cut makes the in car nav next to useless compared to what is in my phone. Let me use that!

You are completely ignoring the second and third owners. Sure most people who can afford new cars don't keep them that long but most people can even afford to buy new. I'd hope the simpler electric drivetrains last just as long as those old Toyotas.

I may be an outlier but I just sold my last car at 310,000 miles. And the tape deck still worked just like it rolled off the factory floor in 2002. Most of the vehicles I'm looking to replace it with are well over 7. 14 is not an unusual age for a vehicle anymore, lots of 2012s are still on the road

I update my phone way more often than my car. I expect to use my car long beyond when the infotainment system is getting updates. Nav built into the car just should not exist. It will be outdated for more of the cars life than the time it is updated I will never understand people willingly using it.

I mean, I think I'm going to enjoy it more and ended up with a decent pay raise but uh yeah...

So uh, guess who just got a new job due to being laid off from the previous one that will include "up to 50% travel"...

I have hope but those maps just aren't in our favor and I'm not sure we'll be able to vote hard enough to get the majority to be able to fix that.
