This statement from the NSF is insane.

Science is, in essence, designed to separate the true from the false.

Understanding how falsehoods spread is key to the scientific endeavor. It is not a violation of free speech to be proven wrong.

💡We found that people are more likely to judge a statement as “true” if they believe having seen the statement before. Notably, this recognition-based truth effect is moderated by underlying memory states. For more information, check out the published article or the preprint: osf.io/preprints/ps...

In future work, we will test if memory for truth and falsity is also robust against other manipulations. Stay tuned!

💡 Spoiler: Using a model-based approach, we found no expectation-violation effect on memory for truth and falsity in our preregistered experiment. However, expectations affected memory for the presented advertising claims as well as guessing processes.

💯 Yes!! A senior colleague told me this once, and it made all the difference! As I like to tell grad students, resist the urge to compare yourself and your progress to others. Plus, you don't know what is going on behind the scenes of others' progress. It might not be what you think. So, do you!!
