A research in context panel from the article, which reads:
Added value of this study
This study combined retrospective data and projections for the near future, up to 2030, across a broader set of countries, especially those most vulnerable to ODA shocks, to fully understand the effects of international cooperation and its potential fluctuations on mortality amidst the ODA funding crisis. Our models forecast an additional 22·6 million deaths across all ages, including 5·4 million deaths in children younger than 5 years, by 2030, under a severe defunding scenario; even under a mild defunding scenario, the projected number of excess deaths by 2030 is 9·4 million across all ages and 2·5 million among children younger than 5 years.
Implications of all the available evidence
Sudden and severe reductions in ODA funding could have catastrophic consequences, with a potential global death toll comparable to—or even exceeding—that of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even modest defunding that simply extends current downward trends is likely to lead to sharp increases in preventable adult and child mortality, potentially resulting in tens of millions of excess deaths in the coming years.

Keir Starmer: Sorry, Mr Blair, but 1441 does not authorise force Keir Starmer: The attorney general has a tricky task in defending the legal basis for war.

One of my favourite recent pastimes is looking through Keir Starmer's old Guardian op-eds. Here's a great one, from 2003. (h/t @tom-clark.bsky.social)

I think about my trans friends.

I think about how scared they are.

I think about the ways this government is targeting them, demonizing them, steadily eroding their rights and erasing them from sight.

I think about what it would feel like if this were done to my people.

I remember that it was.

"The UK currently has the worst paternity leave offer in Europe [at] maximum of 2 weeks' paid leave"

Among other things: mothers can't drive for 6 weeks after c-section and babies often in-and-out of hospital with follow-up care. Lack of paternity leave = stress, resentment + limited productivity.

2-oh you must be related to X in Manchester, whose brother is Solly, do you know him?

A minimalist illustration showing a packaged charger box labeled "one Union one Charger." The box features an image of a blue charger with the European Union flag symbol and a USB-C cable. The scene is set within a holiday theme, with decorative Christmas trees, ornaments, and gift boxes surrounding the charger box. In the top right corner, there is a small EU flag symbol.

It’s time for THE charger.

Today, the USB-C becomes officially the common standard for charging new mobile electronic devices in the EU.

It means better-charging technology, reduced e-waste, and less fuss to find the chargers you need!

New game idea for #chanukah:
-With an opponent, each take turns to name a restaurant the other went to in the last five years
-Then the opponent has to describe where the toilets are
-Keep going until one of you gets stuck
>The brain retains so much useless information
