When you pass that stop, you can see evidence of a path where people are trying to cut through where the Bed Bath & Beyond used to be. So there must be some people.
Bethel Village stop is going to be a big improvement for folks who shop at the Giant Eagle down at South Hills Village!
Yes, definitely! The bad part is that it seems clear that Beechview stops will be the last part of the system to gain ADA access π
They really dropped a bomb on us... Like I say, I feel I have more questions than answers at this point. Changing the strategy for new vehicles is a big pivot!
BTW, Belasco Station was carved out as a special project a long time ago. PRT still has funding and plans to raise other stops along the Red line: engage.rideprt.org/lrap
They're working on some stops in Bethel Park first.
Yeah it's a big open question, but PRT suggested vehicles may be equipped with lifts. Of course this changes all the spec work they've already invested into planning new vehicles π
PRT staff claimed the sort of design they require "doesn't exist anywhere in the world" and that a high-platform stop risks potential "decapitation" in a car accident. They didn't mince words. It sounded bleak, and like their hands are tied.
But I'm no engineer π€·
Honestly, I'm still processing this information. It's a full 180 change, and at this point we have a lot more questions than answers.
One thing is certain though - this means Belasco and other stops along Broadway won't be ADA compliant for at least 7 or 8 years.
Disappointment is an understatement!
Our issue is that the light rail vehicles share the ROW with cars in this area. PRT claims there is no compatible design that works.
Well the upside there is that if they purchase LRV that can service street level boarding, they can easily restore Allentown service.
Biggest issue is that new vehicles are at least 7-8 years away π©
Do cats share the road here? PRT dropped this bomb on us during a community meeting a week ago. They claim that there are no high-platform designs that are compatible with a shared ROW (like on Broadway Ave)
Letβs turn lemons into civic engagement lemonade.
As @pgh-dude.bsky.social points out, a draft of the Allegheny County Safety Action Plan is open for public comment through April 10.
If you live here and care about pedestrian safety, I encourage you to take a look and provide your feedback.
not funny to anyone who is being retruamatized after seeing someone injured by traffic violence
It's not within local control, Harrisburg needs to change the law first
So much for a "balanced budget" π

If you see me on transit, always say hello π
My ebike only goes up to 20mph
You are very brave! I usually bike up and over Mt Washington
Wait, you scooted through the Liberty tunnel?
How did you rack up 35 miles? Did you scoot all the way from North side to Mt Lebanon?
Massive W for South Hills residents, IMO! Crosstown route from Carnegie over to Brentwood via Dormont, Brookline. A Carrick to East Liberty route. SO GOOD π
PRT Bus Line Refresh map is out!
"Riders and operators told us the first draft changed too much, too fast. They asked for fewer disruptions, stronger Downtown access, and better off-peak service. The second draft reflects that feedback by scaling back changes and preserving strong, familiar routes"
Although - many of the south hills routes in the 'refresh' will take advantage of the Brentwood loop!
Was this back when the T went right over the Smithfield st bridge?
Yep, sadly there are very few loops anymore π
True! I wish they'd restore it because as a south hills resident, Penn Station is an amazing transfer from the T! (I even spoke to the Trib once about my love of Penn Station: triblive.com/local/pittsb...)
Lots of downtown routes are now ending at Penn Station - will they maybe bring back T service? π€
