Gladys Mae West obituary: mathematician who pioneered GPS technology She made key contributions to US cold-war science despite facing huge barriers as a Black woman.

No joke: I got angry hate mail today for writing an obituary of a Black woman scientist—because the person felt she did didn’t deserve the recognition.

Which just makes me want to share it again: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

It's World Autism Awareness Day.
Believe us when we say who we are.
Stop expecting us to be like Rain Man, we're not, he was a fictional character in a movie.
Also we're not a monolith, each autist is its own person with flaws and strengths, like any other human being.

Kentucky Senate Passes Bill Allowing Easier Faculty Layoffs The legislation would explicitly permit terminations for low enrollment or “misalignment of revenue and costs.” The GOP supermajority can override any veto from the Democratic governor.

The Kentucky Senate passed a bill that would allow colleges to lay off tenured faculty with 30 days of notice if program enrollments are determined to be low, going well beyond the norm of discontinuing the program in order to do layoffs.

Glasses are a disability justice issue. Glasses are a healthcare issue. If you need glasses to see clearly, you are disabled. This is my bonus wokest take. It shouldn't be controversial even a little, and its weird to me people don't see glasses like this.

Seems that his beliefs about disability have always been clear. The sad thing is that they are so widely shared.
