Oh umm idk if it's also of interest, but I have a weird and queer short story up on Asimov's for free called "Cryptid Or Your Money Back". It's less cozy, though. And less free except if you want to listen to me read it, in which case the Asimov's podcast has that up for free >..> ok ok no mor promo

Aww thank you so much!! It was a real labor of love for the whole team.

It's so good! I finally finally finally finished a playthrough of Deus Ex because of it. It's also part of the big Revision mod, which is easy to install on Steam. (Revision does a lot, though. I like it, but it's not a vanilla playthrough for sure.)

@anthonyha.bsky.social so I look at the latest issue of Asimov's cause I'm in it and who is right above me in the table of contents but ANTHONY FUCKING HA like dude we keep running into each other every 10 years :D

(we were dell magazine award not-winners together. I've changed genders since haha)

Just read a timely and cool story by Misha Lenau @mishtryoshka.bsky.social in the newest Asimov’s Science Fiction - so funny, so touching, so weird. All the great feelz.

Oh dang is it out?! I had no idea! I'm really glad you liked it!!

I had a very queer focused game get a negative review saying it sounded like tumblr. And, well, they weren't wrong haha :D At least it was set modern day, writing around gender in fantasy can be tough, esp. if the register of the voices doesn't match :/ Ah well. At least we got something!

Ahh yeah the open world was the worst part of Inq. I completely forgive it bc of the wonderful story and writing.

Everyone's so love/hate on VG's dialog 🤔 I guess I'll see! Hard to sort out the anti-woke junk from actual issues with the writing. Not doubting progressive writing can be done badly 🤷‍♀️

Did VG end up in the same tier as Inquisition for similar reasons? I bought but haven’t played VG yet but I adore inquisition, so maybe that’s a good sign for how it’ll hit for me :D (DA 2 and Inquisition are S for me.)

Probably no BioWare/DA folks will see this, but I always joked that “dragon age made me gay” (and trans nb now). It wasn't just DA, but boy did it help a lot. The characters and the writing and the ability to roleplay as someone who supposedly wasn’t me but actually was. So much love for each game

I wish I still felt this excited by stuff! We have a friend who still goes full fangirl over things in her almost-40s and it’s so great and just the best vibe to be around :D

There was a blog post by someone who’d been making games in rust that went back to godot and felt it was difficult prototyping in it so that turned me off some too 🤔

I’m sure I’ll try it eventually. I don’t love code-only engines so much though, having done a lot of that for html5 games. I like being able to see my ui at least, and run the animations, etc. But maybe it’s worth it. I tried Defold last two days so maybe I’ll try Bevy.

Ahh that makes a lot of sense. I'll keep it in mind if I need something like this! I don't know any rust, though, so that's intimidating. (Interesting, but I only have so much time between writing and making games and being sad ehehehe.)

Have you tried godot's rust extension vs. Bevy?

Why simulation games specifically?

This feels like the kind of thing you only see in a huge studio with someone whose whole job is the aiming system, or in a solo dev project where you can spend time however you want and no one to stop you :D

Great art, reminds me of Superbrothers from early iOS days!

Oooh neat, so is it 8-directional?

How does changing direction work — can you still slide your thumb/finger to the button, or do you need to life and press?

Cozy game with mystery teleport slime sounds so good

English as much random slang as Russian has extra names 👌 your English is much better than my Russian, though.

It looks dope, as in good.

This game fulfills a clear innate human need to 1) touch slime and 2) be sent away, far away, anywhere but here.

also it looks cute af

If the genre has “rogue” in it you don’t tutorials. Just a dungeon, a two page list of keyboard commands (some must be VERY esoteric, like “wipe face”), and permadeath 💪💀 if the user needs help they can read a 40pg .txt file from usenet (you’ll need to go back in time and put this on usenet)
